Meghan's statement this morning deserves to be read carefully, because it answers one question and opens five. She says that in 2018 a letter was sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection, that it was shared with her, that it gave her the first indication of the allegations now being made against her father, that she was assured it would be investigated, and that she trusted the authorities were doing the same for other families. So she knew of allegations in 2018. In her own words. Now the timeline. August 2018: she writes her father a five-page letter, the one that ended up in the Mail on Sunday and the High Court. It says she has been trying to make peace with him and that his interviews and the staged photos broke her heart. Not a word of anything else. 2019 to 2021: she sues the Mail over that letter, wins, and the whole case is about privacy and the photos. The letter to the police is never mentioned. March 2021: she tells Oprah, and twenty-eight million people, that she lost her father over the paparazzi set-up before the wedding. 2022: the Netflix series tells the story of the estrangement. Photos. Press. Betrayal. October 2026, the morning after the Sun's story: a letter to the police in 2018. Questions, not accusations. Who sent the 2018 letter, and when exactly, before or after her five-page one? What did the Met and RaSP do with an allegation about a man living in Mexico, where they have no powers? Did anyone follow up in eight years, and did she? If she was 'assured it would be investigated,' by whom, and what came of it? And why, having chosen the photos as her public reason for three years, on Oprah and in court, is the real reason being given to the Sun now, within hours, when it does her the most good? She says she trusted the authorities. Perhaps she did. But 'I trusted the authorities' is what people say when the authorities did nothing and they didn't check. If that's what happened here, it's a failure, and it's not only hers. Her father denies everything and calls it revenge by a son he cut off. Nobody has been charged. The person who actually took the boxes to the police was Thomas Jr, in July, and he deserves the credit he's not getting. She chose to make this statement. Having made it, she doesn't get to leave the timeline where it is. Which story was true, 2018 or 2026, and if it was always this one, why did the world have to hear it from the Sun?

@Sue__Suede Since Charles and William have known about it since 2018, it implies that the press was also aware. I was wondering if this was a direct order from the palace to pressure Meghan into reconnecting with her father, so they could use that against her when the truth comes out.

Shows like Jeremy Vine @GMB and @Itv daytime shows should hang their heads in shame they all had Thomas Markle on their shows at one point or panel of people who supported him. Painting Prince Harry and Meghan has horrible parents for not allowing him see their children.
