It is normal, if they were spraying there'd be THOUSANDS of pics of the aircraft on the ground being refuelled or maintained but there aren't any legit pieces of footage ANYWHERE!

Schmidt-Appleman criterion: contrail formation needs both cold enough temperature & high enough humidity in the air. This threshold is usually crossed when cruising ~35,000 ft and combined with enough ambient moisture around -40°C. That’s why contrails seem to just switch on.
