The planned controlled demolition has been successfully completed. A technical assessment is currently ongoing, and the findings will be shared with the public in due course. We urge members of the public to maintain the safety cordon and avoid the area until further notice.

Well done Governor. Now let’s have the same zeal and enthusiasm to solve the Nyali links road flooding issue at Links Plaza and the pot holes around it. Thank you in advance

While we appreciate the update on the successful demolition and ongoing technical assessment, the real concern for the public is accountability. Who approved, designed, and overlooked a structure that posed such a danger in the first place? That’s the information people are truly waiting for

Good job done in bringing the building down but i am very sure the buildings and soil around must have been weakened. Might not be realised now but with time the effects will be felt. Any future developments around that area must carefully & closely be supervised.

The damage must be huge from the way the building came down! Instead of sinking it

You should have invited the Israeli Army to collapse the building. 😊

The question is, where were your engineers, NCA, NEMA and the rest authorities while this building was builded to all those stories... Ama hiyo tuwachie ndama?

Businesses in Mombasa have been at a standstill for the better part of Wednesday as military personnel took control of the area surrounding a nine-storey building along Abdel Nasser Road, which is set for controlled demolition. A 1.2km buffer zone has been set up around the building as authorities finalize preparations for its demolition. The building was declared structurally unsound after a partial collapse last week, which raised immediate safety issues for nearby residents and surrounding structures. In response, all residents have been evacuated, with precautionary measures in place to ensure their safety. Patients from Coast General Teaching & Referral Hospital have also been advised to seek medical services in alternative hospitals during the affected period to avoid any risks associated with the operation. The public has been urged to stay clear of the vicinity for the next eight hours, as the demolition is carried out. Emergency services, including ambulances and fire trucks, are on standby to handle any unforeseen events during the controlled explosion. The collapse is believed to have been caused by the addition of extra floors, which added more weight than the foundation could support. The drilling of a borehole near the building led to the floor columns sinking by three meters and further compromised the structure's integrity. As a result, the decision was made to bring the building down using controlled explosions.
