The Political Prisoner Support Team of the World Liberty Congress works closely with families of political prisoners, offering online sessions, guidance, and shared tools to help them advocate for the freedom of their loved ones. And when release finally comes, the support continues. “After Liberation” focuses on reintegration—helping former political prisoners and their families navigate healing, rebuilding, and life after prison. Anaïse Kanimba (Anaïse Kanimba), daughter of Paul Rusesabagina, and WLC member, reflects on why this support after freedom is just as important as the fight to achieve it.

Political prisoners released from authoritarian regimes often face the struggle of rebuilding their lives while lacking access to basic needs, security, healthcare, employment, and community support. Recovery and reintegration are essential parts of the path toward lasting freedom and dignity. Through online support sessions and community networks, the WLC Political Prisoners Support Team (PPST) helps accompany those who have been liberated on their path toward recovery and dignity. The After Liberation handbook is available for free on the WLC website.

At #CDS2026, the WLC Political Prisoners Support Team launched a new campaign with an interactive exhibition highlighting the reality faced by political prisoners worldwide. Centered around the question, “Who would support you if you were unjustly detained?”, the installation used a mirror to confront participants with a powerful reminder: political persecution can affect anyone who dares to speak out under authoritarian rule. The exhibition underscored the urgent need for global support networks defending political prisoners and democracy activists. #FreeThem

Amid a worsening crackdown following recent protests and growing social unrest, #Cuba continues to face systematic repression, with more than 1,000 political prisoners unjustly detained for demanding freedom and basic rights. From WLC and the PPST, we stand in solidarity with those who cannot speak freely—amplifying their voices, documenting their cases, and calling for justice. We will not be silent, and we will not stop until every political prisoner is free. #FreeThem

The Islamic Republic’s notorious prison, Evin was bombed by Israel. The regime responded by surrounding the prison with security forces to make sure none of the political prisoners could escape. This is the reality in Iran. At a time of war, political prisoners must be released not held hostage. If you want to act, aim your pressure at the Islamic Republic to release them now.
