What is that purpose that God had for evil? Listen carefully: “God, from all eternity, did, by the most wise and holy counsel of His own will, freely, and unchangeably ordain whatsoever comes to pass:“ Yet so, as thereby neither is God the author of sin, nor is violence offered to the will of the creatures; nor is the liberty or contingency of second-hand causes taken away ... sinfulness proceeds not only from the creature; proceeds only from the creature and not from God, who, being most holy and righteous, neither ... can be the author and approver of sin.” But then, says the Westminster Confession, all that God decrees and all that God providentially brings to pass is all to the praise of His glory - and they got it right.The reason for God ordaining evil is for the praise of His glory. Let me ask you a simple question to help you answer the question - the bigger question: is God more glorious because of sin existing or less glorious? Pretty easy question to answer, isn’t it? That really is the ultimate question. Throughout all the eons of eternity, will God receive more glory from His creatures because sin existed or less? And, friends, that’s really all that matters, is the eternal glory of God. So, it’s fourth down, and we’re on the ten-yard line, and I’m pulling out the winning play and we’re going for six for the victory. Turn to Romans 3 - and I want you to track with me a little bit; can’t take time to develop all of this, but I’m going to give you a good start. Wish I could build context; we don’t have time. But let’s look at chapter 3 and verse 5. Opening statement: “But if our unrighteousness demonstrates the righteousness of God, what shall we say?” Grab that phrase: our right - unrighteousness demonstrates the righteousness of God. Jordan Peterson read Stephen Fry's famous answer about God back to him, then asked him what holding it actually costs: Fry once said that if he ever met God, he would ask about bone cancer in children. Peterson brings it up, but not to attack it. He thinks the argument works. Peterson: "Ivan wins the argument, but Alyosha is the better person." Fry: "I don't believe there is such a being, but if there were, I would have many bones to pick with him." Then Peterson turns it. The argument is powerful. The problem is where it takes you. Peterson: "there's a direction that goes in that's nihilistic and resentful and vengeful and angry, and all understandable, but it doesn't look to me like there's anything good in it." He says he tested it on himself. Peterson: "I've had my reasons to be resentful and angry, especially recently, and because I'm suffering a lot of pain." Peterson: "there was nothing in that that didn't make it worse, and that therefore that must be wrong, even though it's justifiable." Fry's answer is that he was never angry to begin with. Fry: "I'm not really resentful and angry about the fact that there's evil in the world. I'm sorrowful very often." Fry: "most people are so good, so anxious to be good, are idiotically good." Fry: "every time I go off to sleep I think, how did I screw up today, how can I be better tomorrow." Then he challenges Peterson's phrase, a higher mode of being. Fry: "show me someone who has a higher mode of existence than I do." Peterson: "that higher mode of existence is what your conscience tortures you for not attaining." Peterson: "you cannot create your own values. The values impose themselves on you independent of your will." His evidence isn't scripture. It's juvenile rats. Peterson: "if the big rat doesn't let the little rat win 30 percent of the time, the little rat will stop inviting him to play." Reciprocity, before anyone believed anything.

In any case, guess what; evil exists and God exists, and God has no power over evil, and evil dominates the world, and it is beyond His control. So just exactly how, may I ask you, is God all of a sudden going to get the knowledge of the future that He needs to bring this deal to an end, and how is He going to exercise the power to end it, and how is He going to overturn His immutable decision in the past to give the creature autonomy? How is God going to define the end of everything in the way the Bible says He defines it if He’s not even in control of it, because He will not or cannot exercise the power, or doesn’t have the knowledge? Maybe global warming has more power than God. So I ask you this: Which god would you like? Would you rather have a god trying to get control of evil or a God completely in control of it? Remember that, Luke 22? And if I’d had been Peter I’d have said, “Well, you told him no, right?” Jesus said, “Actually, I told him yes, have at him.” What? “So that when you’re converted, you can strengthen the brethren.” There’s a remedial purpose in this. “As you come through that difficulty and come out the other side, you’re going to be able to strengthen the brethren.”It was 2 Corinthians 12 where Paul says, “There was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan.” A lot of discussion about what that is. Pretty clear. Messenger is aggelos. A satanic messenger is a what; a demon. I don’t think Paul had a demon in his life, I think that’s the demon that was leading the false teachers who were ripping and shredding the Corinthian church, and Paul prayed three times that it might be removed, and the Lord didn’t remove it. Dear Religious Nigerians What God cannot do does not exist. But what God WILL NOT do surely exists! God WILL NEVER fix Nigeria for us, he will not do what he has empowered us to do! A country where the government that is made up of fewer than 1500 people is not scared of over 200 million people is hell. 90 Percent of our Prayer petitions as Nigerians lies in the hands of good governance. Stop disturbing God and get involved in demanding good governance and accountability. It is a shame that most of our Religious leaders today are a huge part of the problem; they are too scared to speak truth to power or to direct their sheep to partake in civic actions to demand good governance.
