Hamas leadership has been living lavishly in Qatar while the people that they claim to represent in Gaza are suffering. They’ve been directing a war from the comfort of their five-star hotels for almost two years, refusing to release the 48 hostages that are still being held in Gaza. Today, Israeli officials announced that they took a targeted action against these Hamas leaders who have been terrorizing the region for years. This war in Gaza is brutal. It has to end. Palestinians are suffering, Israelis are suffering. The entire region is suffering. The people of Gaza, the Arab League, the US and Israel are all saying the same thing. Hamas must be removed from power. Inside Gaza, people are risking their lives to protest Hamas, and they’re being silenced, beaten, even killed on the streets. They know that Hamas is the reason Gaza is in ruin. They know that Hamas is the one who started the war, and Hamas is the reason that it hasn’t ended yet. And this has been Hamas’s plan all along, force Israel into a war it never wanted to fight, but has to win. Hamas spent years preparing the October 7th attack. They knew exactly what an urban war in a densely populated area would look like. They all went into hiding and left their people out to suffer. And these devastating consequences for the people of Gaza? That was a part of their strategy, to delegitimize Israel’s standing in the eyes of the world. 18 years ago today, Hamas staged a military coup and violently took over Gaza. But to understand how it got to that point, we need to go back a little bit. Gaza was a part of the Ottoman Empire for centuries, and later, the British mandate, and in 1948, was under Egyptian control. In 1967, in the defensive Six-Day War, Israel seized over the Gaza Strip intending to hand it over in future peace negotiations. In 2005, Israel unilaterally withdrew from Gaza and handed control over to the Palestinian people. While the move wasn't part of a formal peace agreement, it reflected the broader Land for Peace thinking. Israel gives land in exchange for peaceful living with its neighbors. This worked relatively well with Egypt in the Sinai Peninsula and with Jordan. Many Israelis, me included, hoped that Gaza would become a model for Palestinian self-rule and a step towards a peaceful Middle East. Then in 2006, came the Palestinian legislative elections. I remember the warnings very clearly. The United States, European leaders, Israel, even the United Nations, everyone cautioned the Palestinians against allowing Hamas, a jihadi terrorist organization which aims to enact an Islamist caliphate to run for elections. We all knew what Hamas was. Their founding charter openly calls for the destruction of Israel and for the murder of Jews. Now, allowing Hamas to participate in the Palestinian elections is like letting the KKK or a neo-Nazi group to appear on the ballot and pretend that they're just another political party. They're not. But they ran anyway and they won, narrowly, 74 out of 132 seats. Most Palestinians weren't voting for terror. They were voting actually against the corruption and dysfunction of the Palestinian Authority, but Hamas saw the outcome very differently. Ismail Haniyeh was appointed prime minister and a unity government was supposed to be formed, but Hamas had no intention of governing responsibly or sharing power. Hamas refused to recognize Israel, stop its violence, or accept previous agreements, and in response, the international community cut off their fundings. Tensions quickly escalated between Hamas and Fatah, which was the political party that controlled most of the Palestinian Authority's governing institutions and security forces, and on June 10th, 2007, gun battles broke out across Gaza. Hamas turned its weapons against their own people and launched a bloody coup against the Palestinian Authority security forces. Political opponents were dragged through the streets, thrown from rooftops, and executed, obviously without trial. That's when Hamas leader, Yahya Sinwar, got his nickname, the Butcher of Khan Yunis. And on October 7th, 2023, Hamas showed the entire world what it had been working on, and it was not a Palestinian state. The suffering in Gaza is not the result of Israel. It is the result of Hamas. They had no answer for a lower civilians to enemy killed ratio in Gaza than the US had in Iraq or any other major urban combat. That's before you add the myriad war crimes of Hamas designed to get their own people killed. YES purposely. It's even worse when people incorrectly use the concept of proportionality i.e Hamas only slaughtered 1300 Israelis on Oct 7 so Israel can only kill 1300 in return. That is wrong entirely. Proportionality means Israel can only use the force proportional to the legitimate military goal. After decades of terror from Hamas the military goal was its destruction and complete removal from Gaza. Gazans put Hamas in power so when the inevitable blowback for the terror they helped build happened, they put themselves in the crossfire and Hamas made sure to hide and fight among them for maximum damage. The media and usual Israel-hating suspects invented the Gaza Genocide and the even more absurd Gaza Famine to attack Israel and sadly it has been far too effective. That makes it even more important to oppose it every chance we get.

This is a video from a funeral in the West Bank capital of Ramallah, where we're told there's no Hamas. They are chanting "October 7 is a holy day! October 7 is a happy day!" Notice the multitude of Hamas flags flown along the Fatah flags. Gaza taught them nothing.

Ceasefire now, people say. But what does that actually mean? So ceasefire is what we've had on October 6th and what we all want, obviously. But President Biden said it best. Ceasefire and a hostage deal, he said, is at the hands of Hamas. President Biden said that Israel put down a rational offer because Israel is a rational country. The problem is that Hamas is not a rational actor. It is a genocidal Jihadi terrorist organization that doesn't care about the lives of Palestinians. And people in the West have been yelling ceasefire now at the wrong side of this war. Hamas has rejected countless ceasefires. Hamas and Iran are not trying to build a better life for the Palestinian people. You have to understand what Hamas and Iran are doing right now is they're actively trying to inflame the entire Middle East right before the holy month of Ramadan, which as President Biden said is going to be very, very dangerous. And this is exactly what they are after. There is currently a multi-front war going on in Israel in which Israel is being attacked by Jihadi terrorists from all sides, all prompted, pushed, and sponsored by Iran. Hamas, according to what was published, said that they have Israel exactly where they want her. That means the international pressure is on Israel to stop the war so that Hamas can remain in power in Gaza. So if you're calling at Israel to ceasefire, you're doing the bidding of Hamas. Hamas does not want to ceasefire. They're going to do whatever it takes in order to maintain power, including hiding in the elaborated tunnel system that they build instead of building a Palestinian state and remain in power at the cost of Israeli children and Palestinian children. It's time to dehamasify Gaza. And next time you demand a ceasefire, just make sure you aim it at the right direction. As President Biden said, this is at the hands of Hamas.
