The real problem with Mags in Gears of War E-Day...

No, that's not all. She is the one to discover how to close e-holes via grenade. She has to give Marcus a pep talk to step up as an actual leader for the squad. Dom is reduced to the Carmine (not present) new trainee role, so that Mags can be the battle-hardened co-leader.

I think the grenade thing wasn't that big of a deal. She was EOD and giving her a moment like that just like Reyes had his moments with comms is fine. I just hate how they forced like 4 big story beats about her within one cutscene without giving us any reason to care yet.

That's the whole thing. Woke is always poorly written. Because the focus isn't ever on writing a good character. The focus is on checking tickboxes.

"Poorly written" but literally every attack has been appearance and implied lesbian. If it was just poor writing, gender or orientation wouldn't be mentioned at all.

I never once mention any of that. I say I dislike that they condensed her entire character arc, past life, emotional history and trauma into one cut scene while other characters like Marcus or even Lucas have drip fed moments where we learn about them and then care about it.

@TwisteddMachine Silence. You are a maga nazi and you will be seen in Leticia James courthouse in 2 years.

@MoiDawg ^ This is a troll, just block them. ^

Holy shit someone actually airing their grievances with her character without being an insufferable douche! I almost forgot what that looked like.

We're never "forced" to respect Mags. She takes charge, like, once because she knows the factory they're going to. How is the apartment scene lazy writing if it's all show, don't tell? We're not beaten over the head with exposition or info-dumps. It follows the same formula +

She’s literally the DEI Tsar Bomba: gay, minority, disabled, woman

Everything about Mags is purely coincidental. The writers accidentally created a stunningly deep character who happens to check every checkbox, then organically inserted her into Marcus & Dom’s origin story. You’re just mad she’s so well-written. Absolutely no checklists were harmed in the making of this character.

You are a bunch of larpers… this game is a 10/10

I'm having a great time with this game. Gunplay is some of the best I've had with a shooter in years. Doesn't mean I can't wish that the writing was better.

Nah… the writing was very good, you are just a cry baby… Wait to a DLC

See i dont find it lazy as much as it is, we need to learn quickly who are our 2 new teammates, Mags and Reyes give us a little bit more in each act but Mags we get a good chunk in the apartment but that information isnt as important as when Her and Marcus are split up

Compare it to Lucas in this same time frame. He's nervous, new, and a dork. He talks a lot to ease his nerves and says random facts about owls while you fight a bile frog, but then eventually comes into his own as the comms guy. We could have learned about Mags' rustlung or her blindness when they checked in with the doc and got geared up. Her development could have had a drip feed buy in with her, especially since she just closed the E Hole with a grenade. She's disabled, but capable. You believe it and you start to connect with the character. Then you get the cutscene with her apartment, her armor and her past squad because we're in the area. We don't need to know about the girlfriend yet. Save the Polaroid for another moment, but now we understand why she's acting like she is in the squad. It makes sense and fleshes her out more. This is a much better narrative and creates investment in her character. My biggest complaint is not her as a character, it's how lazy the writing is to force an entire character development arc into one compressed and forced cutscene. Instead of caring about her, I rolled my eyes.

It doesn't matter how she is written, those with Woke Derangement Syndrome are going to look for anything they can. Mags is pretty much a combo of Vasquez from Aliens and Bill from L4D

Like I know one character is poorly written, but that doesn’t mean the entire game is ass…

The game is incredibly fun. This made me roll my eyes and I think the character build up for her is poorly done, but I just moved on and killed more locusts. 99% of this game slaps.

The reason for bad writing...... Woke writers cant write

Honestly i felt misled. I was excited watching the trailers all before the game release. It definitely focused on Marcus and Dom. Lucky i waited and didn’t preorder. I watched streamers and i was perplexed the story focused on different people. Were they introduced b4 release?

I don't get how you're saying it's forced that she's a badass. Everything you complained about in this video is just normal character building of a new character. Marcus isn't a new character to us we know he has history. Mags lore beats are very brief and not overbearing.

No it’s not poorly written. It’s both poorly designed and poorly written.

Personally I liked mag she’s the old vet that shows while Marcus is a bad ass and a war hero he’s still a young NCO. She’s got experience, but doesn’t try to steal the shell or anything if anything she’s a support for him just my personal take.

Two things can be true. She's a physically disabled, butch lesbian, girl boss of color that was ham-fisted into a franchise like a square peg being jammed into a round hole. "Poorly written" often comes with the territory of being woke and she is a picture-perfect representative.

Mags and Reyes were poorly written and honestly useless characters. I cared more about Carmine’s dad

She's a side character. She gets side-character treatment, a cover story, & that's about it. Watch a movie like Platoon or Apocalypse Now, & you'll have a ton of interesting side characters, but they're not the main focus. They just add flavor; it's ok if that's all they are.

Game’s incredible. Story is spectacular and the graphics are a technical masterpiece. But I’d pay for a mod just to delete this self-inserted empowered dyke

Yup, the writing for her was so forced. But that’s what happens when youre checking boxes instead of writing a compelling character.

this is probably the best take I've seen on this subject. I really dont give a fuck about mags and she just seems like more of a nuisance than an actual Gear

Ypu’ve been pandering to chuds for too long for me. Fuck you grifter.

Just in the bar scene we learn: Marcus is decorated with the Embry Star. Respected by Gears as shown by Reyes. Marcus is still mourning the loss of Carlos. Not multiple acts, not hours, just one scene to establish him as a badass with trauma, just like they do with Mags later

One issue I had with Mags and Reyes is that this is a clear one-off game in the series and we know they’re not in the story after that. So whatever story arc they tell with them in eday needs to be a complete character arc, and it’s not for either of them.

A woke character IS a poorly written character.. thats the whole point. People defending wokeness just ignore it so they can call everyone racist and sexist.

I need to play gears of war 2 again

Well she's also not poorly written. You have to accept these chuds are just chuds.

People complain about EVERYTHING! You have a mic and video camera and everything is an influencer and a 5 star critic 🤦♂️ i wish people would just play games and enjoy it and that’s it

Half? Brother 90% of the gaming population view her as a laughing stock, the rest are pretending to be fine with it because they’re still convinced that virtue signaling garners superiority

No she's not poorly written. She's written to one up men in every interaction. This is done with intention.

I wanna see people dissect the bridge scene because that part was utter bs. Wrote themselves into a corner.

The other problem is she tells the captain shes a private then the apartment scense she like a war hero no whos discharged and she doesn’t respect chain of command never treats markus like he the sgt and higher ranking tell him dom an reyes need a leader like bitch i was at war
