The situation in Ukraine in 2014 is more complicated than just saying the US backed a coup. Putin called the ousting of Yanukovych a US-orchestrated coup, worsening US-Russia relations. The protests, or Euromaidan, were against corruption and authoritarian rule, with some far-right groups involved. Claims of a US coup are debated; the protests had deep domestic causes. The events show the complexity of Ukraine's politics and the impact of historical ties.

And a study of the history of the CIA clearly outlines how this is exactly the type of conditions that they seek out and then actively foster in order to operate in. They don’t orchestrate coups out of thin air. Their whole MO is to use the native pop and their preexisting conflicts to achieve CIA objectives. They learned this in Iran in the 50s, then refined it in places like Guatemala, Panama, Chile, Congo, Laos etc. same playbook right through the war on terror and into today’s new Cold War. And Putin knows this intimately because Russian KGB were busy honing the same craft for all those years.
