One aspect of Karen Read’s interview on the Rotten Mango podcast that deserves real appreciation is how open, honest, and raw she is. And this isn’t new because in every interview she’s given, she has shown up the same way. She has nothing to hide... because she did not kill John O’Keefe. Stephanie asked Karen a deeply personal question: if there were objects she could choose to speak for her, what would they be? Karen’s answer was simple and heartbreaking: rosary beads, specifically ones made from yellow roses taken from John’s casket. Karen was denied the opportunity to properly grieve or attend John’s services after the Norfolk County DA’s Office and Massachusetts State Police charged her with his murder. A standard condition of that charge is a stay-away order from the victim’s family, which was imposed on her. Her ability to mourn the man she loved was taken from her at the very moment she needed it most. We hadn’t heard this detail before, and it’s quietly comforting to know that even though Karen couldn’t physically be there to say goodbye, she still carries a small, sacred piece of John with her. I also find it incredibly telling that, out of all the things she could have named, her mind immediately went to something rooted in spirituality and her connection to John. No matter what anyone from the “other side” claims, this answer speaks volumes. Karen cared deeply for John and she still does. And she won’t stop fighting until John gets justice. 💙
