This is a really bad idea. I tried it once, never again. The water and nutrients run out the bottom. It was like owning a dog. I had to keep feeding and watering it all the time or else it would die. If you want to grow hanging tomatoes just do it right-side up. The branches will grow up then fall over the sides.

Hey, is there already a comparison video with the regular/usual method? And is there actually a significant difference in the fruit yield? 😃

Grown them upright in the ground and prune the hell out of them.

このビデオによって、トマトは逆さまでも育つことはわかった。 でも、逆さまで育てる利点は分からなかった。

It’s a neat little gardening hack .. less mess, less disease, and no need for cages or stakes !!

Trade-offs: The plants fight gravity to grow upward, which stresses the stems. Watering is trickier because the small soil volume dries out fast, especially in heat. And yields tend to be smaller than those of a well-tended in-ground or right-side-up container plant.

ok. That is really cool!!

Don't know about tomatoes, but I did this with Jalepeño peppers. They grew ok, but the soil dried out so fast. They needed water twice daily.

Clever hack! Upside-down tomatoes get better airflow, more even sunlight, and the fruit stays cleaner off the ground. Saves space too. Great for balconies or small gardens. 🌱🍅

Just today I was a my father's garden tying the tomatoe plant's limbs up against the stakes so to keep the eventual fruits off of the dirt. I like the hanging basket idea but watering can't be easy so maybe just hang the baskets right side up so to keep the water in the basket

What it doesn't tell you is that you have to cook them upside down, which quite frankly is a pain in the arsenic :)

Except Tomatoes plant foliage does NOT like to get wet so that's a problem with this idea

As someone who studied some horticulture, this goes against a plants biological system.

Tomato foliage is highly susceptible to fungal and bacterial diseases like blight and leaf spot, which spread rapidly when leaves stay wet; overhead watering from the top of hanging upside-down pots causes water to cascade directly onto the leaves below, prolonging moisture and increasing infection risk. Unlike ground or upright container growing where you can water at soil level to keep foliage dry, the inverted setup makes targeted base watering difficult, often resulting in constant dampness on leaves from runoff and rain exposure in outdoor hanging positions. This moisture on foliage, combined with poor air circulation in dense hanging clusters and stress from rapid soil drying, commonly leads to higher disease pressure, yellowing, defoliation, and reduced yields compared to conventional methods that prioritize dry leaves.
