Have you ever wondered why Mahatma Gandhi placed such emphasis on khadi? Why did he frame the entire freedom struggle around the concept of khadi? And why did he only wear khadi? Because khadi is not just a cloth. Khadi is the expression of the people of India. It is the imagination, it is the sentiment, it is the productive force of the people of India. It is the expression of the people of India. Whichever state you go to, you will find different fabrics, and you will find that all these fabrics represent the people. When the people of Assam give you gamcha, they are not just giving you a piece of cloth; they are giving you a piece of their history, their tradition, their imagination. It's the same with people from other states. These fabrics are beautiful, but when you see these fabrics closely, you will find that each one of them has thousands of little threads embracing each other. All threads are equal. The threads cannot protect you or keep you warm, but when they come together as a fabric, they can keep you warm, protect you, and they can express what you have in your heart. In the same way, our nation is also a fabric. A fabric made up of 1.4 billion people, and the fabric is woven together by votes. The RSS believes that India is one idea and we believe that India is a multiplicity of ideas. We believe that everybody should be allowed to participate, allowed to dream, and given space regardless of their caste, language, religion, tradition or history. This is the fight, and the fight was crystallised in the election when millions of people in India clearly understood that the Prime Minister of India was attacking the Constitution of India. Every single word that I have said to you is in the Constitution. The foundation of modern India is the Constitution. What people understood in the election clearly, and I saw it happening when I used to raise the Constitution, people understood what I was saying. They were saying that the BJP is attacking our tradition, attacking our language, attacking our states, attacking our histories. Most importantly, what they understood was that anybody who is attacking the Constitution of India is also attacking our religious tradition. That is why in my first speech in Parliament you must have noticed when I describe Abhayamudra, the fact that this is a symbol of fearlessness and it is present in every single Indian religion. When I was saying this, the BJP could not stand it. They don't understand, and we are going to make them understand. The other thing that happened was that the fear of the BJP vanished. We saw that immediately, within minutes of the election result, nobody in India was scared of the BJP or the Prime Minister of India. So these are huge achievements, not of Rahul Gandhi or the Congress party. We are peripheral. These are huge achievements of the people of India who realised democracy, of the people of India who realised that we are not going to accept an attack on our Constitution. For them, it’s like an iceberg—they only see the surface. The real pain and damage caused by the caste discrimination affect not only the Indian people but also our Constitution. Shuler: Workers are fed up with an entire political system that they feel is getting in the way. So what we can do here as elected officials—what you all can do—is invest in good union jobs. When people see you investing in good union jobs, they feel hopeful. They feel hopeful for the future, and they can say firsthand, “I’m seeing the change. I feel the change for myself and my family.” Therefore, they become invested. As a woman who came up through the IBEW, I know this is an opportunity for women and people of color to engage in a pathway to the middle class in a way that we haven’t seen before through these good union jobs. This is an opportunity to bring people back into good jobs and back into our democracy if we do it right.

When I'm talking about the attack on the Indian democratic system, it's actually an attack not just on the Indian democratic system but also an attack on the global democratic system. Because if you were to remove India as a democracy, if you were to remove 1.5 billion people from the democratic side, that's a huge dent in global democracy. The BJP has been spreading lies about my remarks in America. I want to ask every Sikh brother and sister in India and abroad - is there anything wrong in what I have said? Shouldn't India be a country where every Sikh - and every Indian - can freely practice their religion without fear? As usual, the BJP is resorting to lies. They are desperate to silence me because they cannot stand the truth. But I will always speak up for the values that define India: our unity in diversity, equality, and love.

Or when one woman votes 200 times in a polling booth in Haryana, the BJP is saying this woman has 200 times the value of a normal Indian.
