#JASMY: "Wagamachi" Carbon Credit Initiative in Nagano – Featured in the Media A meeting of the Council for Decarbonization Collaboration, which connects businesses with the city of Nagano, was recently held in Nagano. New projects focused on carbon neutrality were also presented. One week ago, meeting brought together 56 companies and local entities involved in the Nagano Regional Decarbonization Promotion Council, which works on local carbon-neutral initiatives. During this second session, a new participatory project involving local citizens was introduced. The project aims to both stimulate the regional economy and reduce carbon emissions. It is based on the use of carbon cards specific to Nagano Prefecture and regional models that encourage local travel and consumption. Since June of this year, the city of Nagano has launched a pilot program with #Jasmy Carbon Credit Nagano "WAGAMACHI", where citizens can earn carbon credits by purchasing products from companies engaged in decarbonization efforts. These credits can be exchanged for benefits or privileges online, creating a virtuous cycle between consumers and environmentally responsible local businesses.

Economic degrowth in 2020 reduced global carbon emissions by around 5%. With the reduction of GDP, this came at a cost of $1700+ per ton. Investing in renewables only costs around $60 per ton. Degrowth is not a serious solution.

THE FEDERAL-ALBERTA ENERGY AGREEMENT: ⬇️ Ends the punitive oil and gas emissions cap, enabling energy producers to grow and thrive. Immediately suspends federal net zero power regulations in Alberta, reducing risks to the electrical grid and opening opportunities for investments in AI, data centers, and applications development. Provides a clear path for constructing a 1 million+ barrel per day bitumen pipeline to Asian markets, decreasing dependency on a single customer for Canada's most valuable resource. Allows for adjustments to the tanker ban once the new pipeline to Asia is approved by the major projects office. Includes amendments enabling companies to advertise their environmental leadership and efforts globally without fear of penalties. Positions Alberta as a world leader in developing and implementing emissions reduction infrastructure, particularly carbon capture, utilization, and storage. Demonstrates that emissions reduction can be achieved without capping productivity, growth, or innovation in oil and gas development.

Meaningful action on climate change isn’t optional. Climate change is already a reality, and it's already impacting how we live our daily lives. I fought hard to make sure that the government’s 43% reduction target by 2030 was a floor, not a ceiling on our emissions reductions. Any backsliding on our target to reduce emissions is a betrayal of our children and future generations of Australians who will live with the consequences of the decisions we take today. I will fight every day to make sure we protect their future by taking real action to reduce emissions now.

🇨🇦 Canada: Highest carbon tax in the G7, yet the only country that hasn’t reduced emissions. Trudeau is pushing a 35% cut in oil and gas emissions by 2030, while making Canadians pay for carbon from countries without a carbon tax. Where's all this money going with no results?
