WE WILL REBUILD. Palestinians will always show perseverance against acts of oppression. This is why we started our “Yalla, Na’merha” (let’s build it) initiative, to help families return to their homes. To mark the occasion of clearing out an entire street in the North of Gaza that had been filed with rubble, Translating Falasteen (Translating Falasteen (Palestine)) x The Sameer Project brought a Dabke crew in for the kids and the adults of the neighborhood. Dabke, a traditional Palestinian dance, represents defiance and solidarity as a people. Dabke is also a political statement against oppression. It reaffirms our collective and strong Palestinian identity during a time that the occupation is trying to erase our existence. At the court today, the spirit was so high, the morale was incredible and the confidence of the obidients and the lawyers radiated all through the room. Fear not Nigeria, this is already a victory for us and for Nigeria. The election they stole, they will return back to the rightful winner. We have an amazing Principal with outstanding lawyers like Kenneth Okonkwo One of our learned silk, the incredible SAN Ikpeazu has encouraged us all to keep faith and remain confident because victory is certain and victory we shall get.

Somehow it’s been two weeks since Omri came home. Two weeks of seeing him spring out from his Bring Them Home poster and return to his rightful place, at home, with Lishay, Roni, and Alma. Two weeks of trying to breathe again. Of trying to process what two years of darkness meant, his literal darkness, and the one that engulfed our family and our nation since October 7, 2023. For two years I supported my sister in our campaign to bring Omri home. For nearly a year I led, as the families’ international liaison, our joint struggle. Together we carried a torch that refused to go out until the pen met the paper that stated clearly: hostages first, then the rest. That moment was possible only thanks to the leaders who committed themselves to that principle, to the brave servicemen and servicewomen who sacrificed everything for our families and our nation, and to the many communities in Israel and around the world who advocated with us for two long years. And now, as our joy for Omri’s return is mixed with grief for the families who are burying their loved ones, we keep fighting for the 13 murdered in captivity whose stories still need to be concluded with their return. On Saturday I spoke at Hostage Square for the first and last time, alongside my sister and Omri’s father, Dani. This is what I shared with the tens of thousands who stood before us:

But for family’s like Mohammed’s there is no other option but to turn rubble mounds into something they can live on. This is the situation for most family’s in Shuja’iya and other parts of Northern Gaza. They have no where else to go, they have been working day and night to clear space that is considered barely habitable. This little one wouldn't exist without you. Thirteen years ago, we rescued Mica's mother, Mbirikani, after an awful cable snare injury left her unable to walk. Round-the-clock care at our Voi Unit saved her leg and, eventually, she grew strong enough to return to the wild. Now Mbirikani is a mother, and her daughter Mica is proof that saving one orphan can create future generations. Donations funded the milk, the Keeper care and the habitat protection that made this possible. With 100 orphans in our care, there is always more milk to mix, and miracles like Mica to be born. This is Wurood, quite possibly the strongest 12 year old you’ll ever meet. Shame on the world’s leaders for putting her in this position. Wurood went to the upper most Northern region to check on her family’s home in Beit Lahia. Like everything in the area, it was destroyed by the occupation. Support: So with all her family’s belongings carried overhead, and on foot, she started the nearly 5 mile walk to Gaza’s Port to find a place to set up a makeshift tent. We found her mid journey and of course assisted her with a car ride to the sea, to ease her burden. Families, children like Wurood, are returning to the North to find their homes in ruins. We need to help them with tents, tarps, mattresses, blankets, and nearing rubble from the streets for easier movement. We cannot wait for larger relief organizations to eventually come in, if they ever do! We have to act now.
