Long live DAA

The @DegenDAOO and DLI (Degenerate Labs Inc./the company behind the jpeg [actually we're pngs]) have come to an agreement to secure the future of the Degenerate Ape Academy. Everyone throws around “CTO” like it’s candy, and we love candy, and while it isn't entirely that, it's kind of that. At DAA, the community has always been our greatest strength. This new agreement and structure puts most of the power where it belongs: with the degenerates. It means moving fast (as fast as fat and weird apes can move anyway), breaking shit, and getting ideas out the door without waiting on legal.

Thanks to the DAOO's success with DICS, a long -running validator and mainstay in the space, we’ve built both a war chest and a sustainable source of revenue. This means DAA now has a two-year runway. Two years to push out new developments without fear of starving. Two years of breathing room to actually build, not just survive.

We’ve got partnerships and collaborations ready to roll out in the coming days and weeks. But the real shift? Self-sufficiency. • Trait swapping. • Trait packs. • Auctions. • New features. All proprietary. All ours. We’ve loved our partnerships, but when it comes to control of the collection and all the interactive day to day stuff, it’s time to hold the wheel and drive our own destiny.

We’re going to take chances. Maybe even do some of the things we once swore we’d never do. Does that make us hypocrites? Maybe - it's a long word and we don't plan on checking what it means. We’re here to push limits. Some things might (the audacity to only say "might" lol) break along the way. That’s the point.

What worked in 2021 or 2022 may not work in 2025 (shadowdrive for example heheheh). We’re not married to ideas. We’re here to pivot on a dime. To reinvent when needed. To burn the map and redraw it if that’s what it takes. Maybe we'll eat the redrawn map. We’ve helped start bull runs. We’ve broken the chain. We’ve fucked up. And we’re still here. And Monoliff? Well... DAA isn’t DAA without Monoliff. His art is the Academy. He stays on as Artistic Director, still building the universe he started four years ago. When we let him out of his cage, assuming we can find the key, expect chaos.

These halls have shone a light on some of the most influential people in the space, plus a lot of (wonderful) idiots. It's time for all to return to the Academy. Class is back in session. Fuck, ok.
