Ritual, image making, and pagan style worship have always dominated the world in one form or another. Human religion repeats itself across cultures and across history, and there is nothing new about tradition winning cultural space. That will likely continue into the future. But God’s people have never been defined by what dominates the world. True Christians are not of this world. We live as aliens and strangers here, and our citizenship is in heaven. Christianity is not preserved by rituals that feel familiar or systems that endure through history, but by a living relationship with Christ through His Spirit. The true church does not overcome the world by outlasting it culturally, but by remaining faithful to Christ while living apart within it. Tradition may survive, but God’s people belong to another kingdom altogether.
