The rhythm system in Scratchin' Melodii has changed quite a bit since the 2022 demo. I definitely would like to improve the in-game tutorial in the full game, but for now I thought I'd take some time to explain some of it in a thread!

The most important thing is using the available buttons and landing them on the beat markers. For example, the available notes on this line are A, B, X, and Y. Pressing any other button than those would count as a misinput and deduct points.

Following the order or timings of the notes isn't really necessary. Think of it as more of a "suggestion". This is where freestyling comes in! As long as your note is one of the available buttons and its center is close enough to a beat marker (dot or star), it'll gain points!

But freestyling isn't just about adding extra notes, I also made it so you can gain bonus points for rearranging them! For example, on a line that says "R L", pressing "L R" is worth more points! Bonuses you get from freestyling are what make the Expression meter rise.

In conclusion: -Stay on beat! It's gotta sound good. -Use the buttons shown in your line! -Remix it for extra points! I hope this info can be helpful in the meantime!

The parappa games have taught me well…..

dawg but the animations are nuts. legit blows my mind that this is gameplay and not pre-rendered

I definitely like this change a lot more. Gives players a better way to freestyle without just throwing inputs offbeat and still get points. Although did have a hard time adjusting to the changes as someone who played the last demo release lol

So it’s basically Parappa now! Even more reason to love this game.

Glad to see freestyling with words have gotten better, Stir and Mix with Melodii’s minecraft enchantment table language still lingers on my mind lol

Questions: is 3D mode in the demo also?
