The Rolling Stone Studio: Miranda Lambert Miranda Lambert talks about how having a pet kangaroo in the passenger seat inspired the lyrics for Ella Langley's "Choosin' Texas" "She was like, 'she's from Texas, I can tell.' And that's where the song was born, funny enough."

Wildest piece of music lore I’ve heard in a while, but Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” was inspired, at least in part, by Miranda Lambert getting pulled over with her pet kangaroo in the car.

This is Miranda Lambert singing ‘Choosin' Texas’ in St. Louis on July 4th. She told the crowd that she wanted to remind them that she co-wrote Ella Langley's hit with Langley and songwriter Jobeth Taylor. Lambert said she knew it was going to be a big hit when she started singing it the first week it came out by the reaction of her crowds. She said by the second week she moved the song down to the end of her set because "I gotta' follow it with my old s*** nobody cares about." Choosin' Texas" came out in October of 2025, and has since become a massive smashing hit and the longest-running No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 by a female artist ever. 😳 I didn't know she helped write that song. Who do you think sings it better-Ella Langley or Miranda Lambert?

While Ella Langley was sweeping the 2026 ACM Awards with five wins, Miranda Lambert was quietly adding to her own legendary trophy cabinet. Miranda won two ACM Awards for Choosin’ Texas — Single of the Year as a producer and Song of the Year as a co-writer alongside Ella, Luke Dick, and Joybeth Taylor. That brings her career total to 40 ACM Awards, the most in the show’s history. More than George Strait. More than Brooks & Dunn. More than anyone. And instead of making the moment about herself, Miranda stood on stage talking about how thankful she was that Ella trusted her with the song. That’s what legends do. They help build the next generation too. #MirandaLambert #EllaLangley #ACMAwards #countrymusic
