In this footage, Grigory Yavlinsky, the future leader of Yabloko, lays out his vision for expanding Ukrainian influence inside Russia: Ukrainian schools, textbooks from Ukraine, Ukrainian-language radio and TV, cultural centers. (Thanks, but no thanks) Earlier this month, Yabloko was kept off the ballot in an upcoming election. Why? Because thirty-three years later, Yavlinsky is still championing Ukraine - but inside Russia! Watching this video now feels like a glimpse of an alternative Russia I'm glad never existed.
