It seems Whats Eating Gilbert Grape ending scene was inspired by this.

i have seen many such The Sacrifice(s). the flames were always fierce and turned home into ashes.

Every day I think about this...

Tarkovsky insisted on using a single camera for this shot. It failed. They had to rebuild the house and burn it down again.

Of course, Tarkovsky was a perfectionist. It failed the first time, but it ultimately worked...
