Around a year ago, Palestinians in Gaza were killed to obtain a bag of flour and today flour is available but too expensive for most people to afford. Help here: Fights outside bakeries are common as there isn’t enough bread for the population - this is because the military occupation allows in very limited amounts of goods. The Sameer Project has a bakery in Gaza City that produces around 5,000 loaves everyday. We don’t have lists or queues for bread. Our team goes to camps that we assess and don’t get much food, and we give the bags of bread tent by tent. Aid with dignity. Each bag of bread costs around $2 but that fluctuates slightly according to the amount of flour coming into Gaza. The Sameer Project needs your support to keep the bakery running. By setting up our own oven inside Jabalia Camp, we were able to bake fresh bread on-site and distribute it immediately to families in need. Unlike packaged food, this provided residents with warm, freshly made bread, which many had not eaten in months. Yesterday (10.02.2025), we baked and distributed 2,300 fresh loaves of sajj bread in Jabalia Camp. The destruction of bakeries, severe shortages of flour and fuel, and the ongoing blockade have made it almost impossible for families to access fresh bread. Starting today, we also opened another oven specialized in more nutritious and dense bread. We will share those results with you tomorrow. The Sameer Project has a surprise for you, can you guess what it is? 😏 Yes, The Sameer Project is opening its first bakery in Gaza City this week to provide bags of bread for FREE to hundreds of families, help here: We are still in the testing phase at the moment and hoping to launch the bakery properly next week. Access to bread is a major issue across the Strip as it is sold for $1 a bag by the World Central Kitchen but even that amount is not affordable for many families. The World Central Kitchen has access to ingredients whereas we would have to purchase them for the full price, which means the production of one bag will cost more but we will not charge anything for it, and distribute it for free. A generous donation from the Babochki Collective (The Babochki Collective ) that has allowed us to expand and open a bakery that’s hiring ten people full time, and will hopefully provide bread for at least 200 families everyday. For weeks now, The Sameer Project has been working on building a new desalination plant to provide a new source of clean water for Palestinians in Gaza. This will help us save money and have a new source of fresh water. This project is costing us around $200,000 but we will be able to provide 250,000 to 300,000 liters per day for a maximum of $2,000 - instead of the current $4,500 we pay for the same amount. The Sameer Project will save more than 50% of the cost of water distribution per day. So in around two and a half months of operating the desalination plant, we would’ve saved $200,000. Please help today: Palestinians are having fist fights to get bread to eat. Food is too expensive for most people to buy. Many children remain malnourished. The situation is beyond tragic and Palestinians in Gaza are being killed slowly while the world remains silent. The Sameer Project bakery is trying to tackle the bread issue by doing daily distributions in displacement camps. On April 22nd, we gave out 150 bags of bread to Salam Camp and 70 bags to Kanz Camp in Gaza City. 20 bags were distributed to surrounding tents. The 240 bags cost $677, including the 11% commission. A famous chicken sandwich in Gaza named “Tailandi” is something we regularly make in The Sameer Project kitchen. On February 7th, Translating Falasteen (@translatingpa ) x The Sameer Project team distributed 675 of those sandwiches to Falasteen Shelter Center, Rimal. Help: The total cost with 11% commission was $1,261. So each sandwich costs around $1.85. Chicken and goods are coming in through the border but less than a quarter of the needed amount. Many people from Khan Younis were displaced to the Central area making camps extremely overcrowded with multiple families sharing one tent. Finding empty space has become extremely difficult. Six days a week the Sameer Project provides 16,000 liters of water per day in Central Gaza. The salinity of the water coming from each truck is checked before distribution for all our water campaigns. The children in Gaza Camp in Deir Al Balah were barefoot, some wearing summer clothes, and all were cold. This camp gets minimal support and none of the families had anything to keep them warm for winter. Our The Sameer Project team got to work after taking the sizes of all the children at the camp, organizating a distribution of warm winter jackets, ensuring there was one for each child in need. We provided 103 jackets, each one heavy, water proof and lined, to keep them warm during the winter storms. Each one was approximately $23 and cost a total 2,290 after 9% commission. We are right in the middle of winter and need your help to distribute more warm clothing and protective jackets. Donate to our “Give Warmth to Gaza” initiative in our Return Home Campaign.
