@POTUS Jarrod, you can't afford the SLS rockets. They are a huge financial burden on the country. You need a significantly cheaper launch vehicle. How are you paying for moon bases if the rocket you use to get there costs 4.1 BILLION dollars per launch?!?!?!

Younger years...little brain storming sessions tween me and my space nerd friends during the Shuttle Program...we always imagined various scenarios to include how that could work just like our mighty ships across our vast oceans. This would be so easy to win and recruit the next generation of engineers, fabricators, and scientists. Simply invest in workshops for the skills needed and put them near universities with the fields of study. Most people have no clue how embarrassingly empty the universities machine shops are. Administrator Isaacman is right — the window is measured in months. Solar power alone cannot sustain a permanent presence through the two-week lunar night or the dust storms and weak sunlight of Mars. Compact fission reactors deliver the continuous, high-density energy both a Moon colony and a Mars colony will actually need: for habitats, life support, in-situ resource utilization, and the nuclear electric propulsion that shortens the trip and reduces the number of miracles required. The policy and the funding are in place. Now we execute. The next race should never be this close.
