“Free Palestine” and “Globalize the Intifada” are not peaceful slogans, they are calls for violence. And pretending otherwise is gaslighting the Jewish community. Jews are just 2% of the U.S. population but are targeted in 68% of religion-based hate crimes. People have been murdered while their killers shouted “Free Palestine.” This hatred runs rampant on college campuses, where Jewish students are harassed for supporting Israel, and ends in violence on our streets. This is the new antisemitism. And under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, it’s illegal. We need to call it what it is. And we need to stop it now.

No one in the Jewish community I spoke to felt like this was a surprise. Many felt like this was an inevitability. Jewish Americans make up 2% of the U.S. population yet are victims of 70% of all religious-based hate crimes. Those are the facts. The only way to defeat antisemitism is to name it, acknowledge it, and for all of us to confront it head-on. While Jews are the target of this hate, they are not the only victims. History is filled with many examples of when hatred begins, it does not end with its original target. Antisemitism today can quickly become attacks on the LGBTQ community and other minority groups tomorrow. It is incumbent on all of us to confront antisemitism, not just to protect members of the Jewish community but also to prevent the spread of hatred to other parts of society. People of all faiths and backgrounds must firmly stand together against bigotry and hatred, and the violence it breeds. In these dark times, we need the light that only our shared common values can bring.

How come Jews make up less than 1% of Canada’s population, yet suffer 70% of its religious hate crimes? In 2025 alone, Canada recorded 6,800 antisemitic incidents. That's 20 a day! And while the incidents keep adding up, the incitement continues. Canada’s government has failed to protect its Jewish community. The time to ban incitement is now.
