Arkansas State University is a federally funded institution, and I was just told there is “nothing they can do” about a student in university housing calling me a ni**er on video. I was encouraged to accept an apology from a friend of the RA and move on. Let me be clear: no Black student in this building feels safe right now. This did not happen off campus. It did not happen online. It happened in university housing, immediately after an RA meeting, and involved private details of my housing situation being shared. The response I received minimized the harm and shifted concern toward the comfort of those involved rather than the safety of Black students. Calling me a racial slur is not a misunderstanding. It is harassment. Treating it as something to be apologized away sends a message about whose safety matters. Happy Black History Month. We are still being told to be quiet, be polite, and accept less. If you live on campus, especially if you are a student of color, you deserve to feel safe where you sleep. #LRHN

This enhancement significantly improves nighttime visibility, making it easier for residents and security personnel to see clearly after dark. The increased visibility acts as a deterrent to criminal activities, thereby contributing to a safer environment within the community. The initiative specifically benefits the residents of Kyasands informal settlement and the Bloubosrand area, where safety concerns have been a concern. Yesterday’s emergency sitting of the 16th SRC Parliamentary Council was a sober occasion, as we mourned the loss of our dear student, Miss Joana Deladem Yabani. The college caucus showed solidarity by wearing black attire with red bands. On behalf of SCISA, I expressed condolences to Joana's family, friends, while acknowledging the university management's efforts like ensuring 80% of campus being under CCTV surveillance. However, I emphasized that more needs to be done to guarantee student safety. To address this, I proposed a four key solution. Here they are: - Decentralized CCTV Monitoring: Instead of having a central monitoring point, CCTV cameras should be monitored at individual halls and colleges to ensure timely responses. - Enhanced CCTV Capabilities: CCTV cameras should be equipped with alarms and radio sensors to alert authorities of potential threats. - Security Personnel Ratio: The university should consider the security personnel-to-student ratio, just as they do with lecturer-to-student ratios. - Increased Nighttime Transportation : More buses should be allocated to the Prempeh Library during its 24-hour service to ensure students' safety while moving students back to their hostels at night. It's clear that while management is taking steps, more needs to be done. Unfortunately, we can no longer say that KNUST campus is safe for students. #KNUSTStudentsneedbettersecurity

Yesterday, just hours before the start of Tisha B'av, the Lakewood Police Department received multiple 911 calls reporting what callers believed to be gunfire at the BMG (the largest Yeshiva in the world) campus, with several individuals seen running from the area. Officers from every division of the Lakewood Police Department responded immediately. Upon arrival, officers made entry into the buildings and began securing the campus while conducting a systematic search to ensure the safety of everyone on scene. As the investigation progressed, officers determined that the sounds believed to be gunfire were likely caused by a construction worker operating equipment on the campus. Out of an abundance of caution, every building on the campus was searched. No threat was located, and the campus was determined to be safe. At no time were students, staff, visitors, or nearby residents in danger.

For 4 days the pro-Hamas mob Columbia University has taken over our campus. No one bothered them. Saturday night, we went out with Israeli flags for one hour. They stole our flag and tried to burn it, my brother was assaulted, and Jewish students were splashed with water. Public safety was nowhere to be found. Columbia has lost its campus. This is why Jewish students don’t feel safe. Because they are not.
