THE SHOT (#DukeOnThisDay 1992)

The greatness of Verne Lundquist. He didn’t make it “his moment” he called the basket and then stepped out of the way. It allowed this moment to truly be captured. Everyone watching could feel like they were there…. ….by him, simply being humble and silent.

“If grant can make the pass, I can make the shot” The perfect game. The perfect shot.

I was watching the game with my Dad. He said something to the effect of "well, I guess we're not going to win it again", but when Laettner hit that shot, we both jumped up in joy and celebrated like they had just won it all. Something I'll never forget

My dad was the Ref that called #TheShot good, you’re welcome Dukies #MarchMadness #Laettner

@ShermanJeff A “kid” with the composure to have 2 seconds, but to get his dribble/bounce in, turn around & hit a mid range winner. But that PASS is what makes it possible. Too high & Christian can’t run his process. Too low and he’s having to force it up too early. That F’n pass.

Needs to be archived in the National Library

I Remember Watchin It Live (on tv obviously) 👏🏽👏🏽✊🏽 ONE SHINING MOMENT @luthervandross @MarchMadnessMBB @realgranthill33

Nah this is the one you should post the forgotten one against UConn

I STILL LOVE @laettnerbball 💪🏻🏀💙

I'm glad I got to see this live on Television. Easily the greatest thing I ever saw in sports.

@TheDevilsDen I remember. I saw it in real time. My top ever Duke BBall moment. ❤️

That catch was elite

Laettner, Hurley, & Hill got through Mashburn, Calbert Cheaney, and the Fab Five on their way to the title. Plus Dan Hurley and Arturas Karnisovas.

This was the very first college basketball game I watched. Been a fan of Duke since that day

look at his FOOTWORK!! 🔥

This is March Madness!!!

The game that solidified me not just being a Duke fan, but sports in general. Nothing else can make you feel like this game did, still hasn’t been topped since I was 7 as the greatest sports moment ever.

Was watching the game in my room as a kid

Back when NCAA floors looked good. #TheShot #Duke #TheSpectrum #phila

😈

The pass!!!!

The greatest shot/ play in college basketball history! 😈😈😈😈😈

My favorite play ever!

This is why you put pressure on the inbounder and your 2 defenders in front and in back of Laettner, not one on each side. Kentucky gave them the 80 foot pass and deserved to lose.

Curious, did they not have score bugs back then?

I remember my lil sister and I jumping so high and screaming so loud when he hit that shot!! It was the greatest moment ever!! Solidified my love for all things Duke 🥹😈😈

Verne Lundquist quoting that Grant Hill’s father Calvin is a former football player. He should know. Guess who was the Dallas Cowboys announcer when his father played for them?

I was at the game! What a play and shot!! The Spectrum in Philly!!

The new shot

What is the world is #34 on defense doing!?!?

Everybody hated laettner soooo much

@duranduran WINS AGAIN! #TheBrotherhood
