A traditional signpainter who learned from some heroes in the industry, you’ll see his work across some (basically most) of Manchester’s favourite independent food, drink and... retail spots. From the smart serif of The Pearl up in Prestwich, to the classic caff look of Woody’s in Altrincham, via loads of spots in the city centre like Band On The Wall, Trof and The Smithfield Tavern and out to his own stomping ground of Macclesfield, Gregg’s iconic lettering sprawls the map. When you spot it, it’s a sure sign that whatever is inside is likely to be very good too. We were lucky to spend some time with Gregg in Macclesfield, and found out that signpainting is a busy job indeed.show more

Here’s a video of some of the activity that occurred in the skies above my home on Thursday. One of the things you’ll notice in this video is a short clip inserted of ones of the planes I captured while filming. It’s extremely important that we track and document exactly who is leaving the trails that linger and take over our beautiful blue skies. It helps you learn to understand who’s responsible as well as how it’s happening. In addition to that it provides evidence to the states that have laws in place already to ban it and it provides a record for potential future litigation, etc. Look for a post from me here on the ROS community tomorrow that will provide additional details on how to track, record, and document who you’re seeing in the skies above you. Professor Ruth Wisse always famously said you should never talk to people about Israel without a map. And that's because if you just look at it in the prism that the Palestinians and their supporters want you to look at it through, you see an army with F-35 jets and tanks, and you see the Palestinians in Gaza without those things, and you say, "Okay, one is the more powerful, the other is the underdog. We'll root for the underdog." That's a common theme in Western society. But when you look at a map, you can see the reality: Israel is a teeny, tiny country surrounded not just by some of the largest countries in the world—Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran, Iraq—huge land masses filled with hundreds of millions of people, but also by some of the wealthiest countries in the world, with hundreds of billions, and sometimes trillions, of dollars in oil and natural gas resources that Israel does not possess. So you have some of the largest countries in the world, some of the most populous countries in the world, and hundreds of millions of Muslim Arabs, many of whom have been raised from childhood to hate the Jewish state and to see its very existence as a deep wound in the substructure of their souls—one that must be corrected if they are to fulfill their mission on this earth—all arrayed against the one tiny Jewish state in the world. When you see it in that prism, I think the lens is very different.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio: It is in my personal view that we've had probably the most productive and meaningful meeting so far in this entire process since we've been involved in it from the beginning. So I think the takeaway from it is I think this is a very, very meaningful, I would say probably best meeting and day we've had so far in this entire process going back to when we first came into office in January. We have a very good work product that was already built on a foundation of input from all the relative parties involved here, and we were able to go through some of those items now point by point, and I think we've made good progress. To be a successful founder, you have to believe that what you're working on is going to work — despite knowing it probably won't! That sounds like an oxymoron, but it's really not. Believing that what you're building is going to work is an essential component of coming to work with the energy, fortitude, and determination it's going to require to even have a shot. Knowing it probably won't is accepting the odds of that shot. It's simply the reality that most things in business don't work out. At least not in the long run. Most businesses fail. If not right away, then eventually. Yet the world economy is full of entrepreneurs who try anyway. Not because they don't know the odds, but because they've chosen to believe they're special. The best way to balance these opposing points — the conviction that you'll make it work, the knowledge that it probably won't — is to do all your work in a manner that'll make you proud either way. If it doesn't work, you still made something you wouldn't be ashamed to put your name on. And if it does work, you'll beam with pride from making it on the basis of something solid. The deep regret from trying and failing only truly hits when you look in the mirror and see Dostoevsky staring back at you with this punch to the gut: "Your worst sin is that you have destroyed and betrayed yourself for nothing." Oof. Believe it's going to work. Build it in a way that makes you proud to sign it. Base your worth on a human on something greater than a business outcome.

WATCH: Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker comes out strongly today against Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s “head tax” proposal. “I am absolutely foursquare opposed to a head tax for the city of Chicago. It penalizes the very thing that we want, which is more employment in the city of Chicago. It makes it very hard to attract companies from outside the city to come in and harder for companies already here to stay.” Pritzker also said Johnson needs to work harder to find efficiencies in the city budget, rather than threatening the economic growth of the city and state with a new tax on jobs. “Balancing the budget for the state of Illinois and for the city of Chicago is vital. It can’t be ignored, it has to be done, but it shouldn’t be done with a head tax in the city of Chicago… “I am confident the city can do it. Look, you’ve got to start with efficiencies. You’ve got to go into city government—and I haven’t seen any of that in this budget so far. That’s going to have to happen because there are going to be changes. People are not going to like certain kinds of revenue enhancements that he’s got in his budget. So you’ve got to find efficiencies, and there are efficiencies to be found—some with technology, some because we have departments doing things that maybe we don’t need done. And finally, how about we do our best to attract, retain, and grow businesses in the city of Chicago, because that, again, is the best way for us to pay the bills.” Under Johnson’s proposal all companies employing 100+ people in Chicago would have to pay a tax of $21 per employee per month. As Pritzker correctly points out, it’s a punishment for creating jobs.

I think it’s easy to forget the bigger picture - your ‘raison d’être’ - and, more importantly, all of the wonderful things you’ve already achieved, when you’re in the trenches of life. Whether you’re trying to find a new job, write the novel you’ve been saying you’re going to write for years… Or, like me, trying to put together a collection and organise an exhibition, all the while convinced that it’ll be a total failure, obviously. Here’s some clips from the past couple of years - some new work and some old work.
