Certainly not better than a human that knows how to drive properly. In fact any good driver would not have got that close to the other car before changing lanes. Better than some but not better than all drivers, we have to be realistic. The more "realistic" people are with negative feedback the better the self driving cars will become, otherwise it's crap in & crap out.

The last time Elon warned the Tesla shorts with the word “tsunami” was back in 2012 when the stock was trading at ~$5 per share, split adjusted. “I think there is a tsunami of hurt coming for those holding a short position, it’s going to be very unpleasant. I advise people to exit, while there is time.” Today, Elon is sounding the alarm again for the ones that still have the guts to continue to bet against Tesla. Except this time, Tesla stock is sitting in the $400s, with the company very well capitalized and executing across all the major businesses - EV, FSD, Robotaxis, Energy, and Optimus. I would not take this lightly!

The Tesla Diner reminds me that the future is worth getting excited about. This was my first time arriving and I couldn’t even find the words except ‘wow…’ This is exactly what I imagined the future to be. Charging my Tesla, grabbing a burger and drink, and watching a movie, all in one futuristic place, surrounded by the products and people I love. And Tesla just made it real.

Even my kids know that in a world full of Tesla Robotaxis, Waymo is dunzo. It’s really not that complicated. Waymo needs expensive LiDAR, radar, cameras, specialized hardware, detailed maps, and a massive amount of infrastructure just to operate in certain areas. Tesla’s approach is completely different. Cameras are cheap. Tesla can mass-produce vehicles at a scale Waymo can’t come close to, use the same AI system across millions of cars, collect massive amounts of real-world driving data, and improve the entire fleet through software updates. That’s where the economics become almost impossible to compete with. The cheaper you can build the car, the cheaper you can operate it, and the more vehicles you can put on the road, the cheaper you can eventually make every ride. Waymo might prove Robotaxis can work. Tesla’s goal is to make them cheap enough and build enough of them to be everywhere. That’s the difference people still don’t understand. This isn’t just about who has the better Robotaxi today. It’s about who can build millions of them, drive down the cost per mile, and scale across the world. Even my kids understand the end game. Tesla Robotaxis are going to be everywhere. People who say BYD is beating Tesla in China are most likely the same ones saying Samsung is beating Apple bc of market share. The reality is BYD sells more units largely by flooding the market with cheaper, lower margin cars. While Tesla sells fewer units, but they focus on higher quality vehicles, better software, global scalability, and profitability. Tesla still generates FAR more profit per vehicle, has world leading margins, and owns the full ecosystem from hardware, software, AI, charging, data, and manufacturing technology. Market share without profit is just volume for volume’s sake, and in my opinion, that’s not winning. This is the same story as Samsung vs Apple. Samsung often leads in unit shipments by selling tons of low and mid range phones. And Apple sells fewer phones, yet captures the majority of the entire industry’s profits. This is bc Apple has premium products and the ecosystem locks in customers with software dominance and customer & brand loyalty. Trust me, no serious investor thinks Samsung is beating Apple just bc it ships more phones. Even Elon called this out years ago saying scaling volume is much easier than building great products that people love, make real profits, and at scale. This is excruciatingly hard. So when someone tells me that BYD is beating Tesla bc of market share. What they’re really telling me is they are clueless on how businesses actually succeed. Tesla is the clear winner vs BYD.

The Tesla Cybercab launch was magical. I’ve spent years talking about what autonomous transportation would become. This week, I got to live it. And what surprised me most was NOT that the Cybercab had no steering wheel. It was NOT the butterfly doors. It was NOT even how futuristic the car looked. It was honestly how NORMAL it felt. I just get in. Sit down. Put my seatbelt on. Press one button. And go on w/ my life. No fear or anxiety at all. At one point I literally forgot there wasn’t a driver in front of me. The ride was unbelievably smooth. And that’s when it really hit me… this is how transportation changes… when the technology becomes so seamless that you stop thinking about the technology at all. The entire Cybercab experience is ridiculously simple: 1/ Order the Cybercab from your phone. 2/ It arrives, recognizes your phone, and can automatically open the door for you. 3/ Get in, buckle up, and the doors close. 4/ Press one button on the screen to begin the ride. 5/ You can work, talk, watch something, listen to music, enjoy the scenery… do whatever you want bc the car handles the entire driving. 6/ Arrive, get out, and payment is handled automatically via the app w/ no tipping. That’s it. Some people are probably still going to say: “Elon was late.” “FSD will never work.” “Tesla is still just a car company.” “Who would trust a car w/ no driver?” “Who would ever get into a car w/ no steering wheel or pedals?” “Cybercab/Robotaxis will never scale.” I’ve heard versions of this stuff for years… And yet here I was. Sitting inside the product. Paying for rides. Driving around Austin w/ nobody behind the wheel. After experiencing Cybercab myself, I understand what the Tesla team was building toward. The car. The autonomy. The safety. The software. The app. The pickup experience. The doors. The payment. The entire experience had to feel like ONE product. Bc if Tesla gets that experience right and then scales it across America, this becomes MUCH bigger than another Tesla vehicle. It will change how people think about owning a car. It changes ride-hailing. It changes what we do with the time we currently spend driving. It changes transportation. And I think Tesla absolutely knocked this product out of the park. What makes this even more personal for me is how grateful I am that I was invited to experience this moment. As the only Korean in the world, being invited to the launch and getting the opportunity to be the first one to ride in a Cybercab is something I’ll remember for the rest of my life. Seriously. What a freaking life… hate me or love me, nothing honestly compares to this. Austin… Your food was incredible. The people were unbelievably kind to me. The city treated my family and me so well. I loved almost everything about you, except the heat. And Tesla and Elon… Thank you. You have genuinely changed the direction of my life. You gave me something I am deeply passionate about. The products. The technology. The people building them. The crazy ideas that sound impossible right up until the day they’re sitting in front of you. Today I head back to the Bay Area. But my mind can’t stop thinking about what I just experienced. There was a point when people started saying Tesla’s biggest growth days were behind it. After this week… I feel the exact opposite. Cybercab reignited that fire in me. It feels like I just watched the first few minutes of the next chapter/book of Tesla. And if what I experienced in Austin scales to cities around the country… Transportation will NEVER be the same. One day my kids will look back at human-driven cars the same way we look at an elevator operator today. Something that once seemed completely normal… until technology made it unnecessary. I came to Austin excited about Cybercab. I’m leaving even more excited about what comes next. The future is going to be so freaking amazing. Till next time, Austin!
