#WATCH | Protests are continuing in Gilgit-Baltistan over the attack on Iran and the killing of the Iranian leader. In Gilgit and Skardu, demonstrators set fire to local offices of the United Nations, including the United Nations Development Programme office in Gilgit. In Skardu, the SP office and several government buildings were also torched. As a result of firing on the protesters, seven demonstrators were killed and more than a dozen others were injured. An emergency has been declared in hospitals, and security has been placed on high alert in Gilgit and Skardu. (01.03)

It will never stop being shocking to witness hundreds of peaceful protesters being hauled from the streets into police vans. Police chiefs have a choice about how they police protests. These arrests are in breach of the UK's international human rights obligations and should not be happening. Arresting hundreds of people for peacefully sitting down and holding a sign is not the job of the police and is a waste of their time when they could be out helping people. Amnesty has long criticised UK terrorism law for being excessively broad, vaguely worded and a threat to freedom of expression. Police responses to these peaceful protests only further confirm that our concerns are justified.

Update on Lahaina. Hundreds of homes have been completely taken by fire. The people are suffering. There are not enough supplies. There is not enough food, water, gas or propane. There are people who have attempted to bring supplies and they have been turned away. The federal government has denied access at the roadblocks. And if they want to leave, they can’t because of the lack of gas. Meanwhile, Biden has continued to send billions of dollars to another country. But has left his own country in the dust.
