The South African Private and Public Security Association (SPPSA) has strongly condemned a violent cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery in Mamelodi East, Pretoria, in which two security officers were killed and another was critically injured. SPPSA is offering a R200,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and successful prosecution... of the suspects. All information should be provided directly to the police. According to reports, a heavily armed criminal syndicate intercepted an armoured cash vehicle, using high-calibre firearms and explosives to breach the vehicle before escaping with an undisclosed amount of cash. SPPSA said the use of military-grade weapons, explosives and gunfire in public areas demonstrates an alarming disregard for human life and the rule of law. A multidisciplinary police task team has been activated to track down those responsible and bring them to justice. SPPSA said CIT robberies are facing widespread condemnation from law-enforcement agencies, security regulators and government officials amid growing concerns about increasingly sophisticated and violent tactics used by criminal syndicates. SPPSA also warned members of the public not to gather at CIT crime scenes to collect scattered cash, stressing that doing so amounts to theft and puts lives at serious risk because of possible unexploded explosives and the dangers associated with an active crime scene. The association further welcomed the arrest of a community member who allegedly went to the scene and stole a rifle left at the crime scene. The suspect is expected to face the full force of the law. CASH-IN-TRANSIT HEIST RUSTENBURG Police have launched an investigation following a CITRobbery that occurred at approximately 16:40 on Monday, 16 February 2026, in Old Geelhout Park, Rustenburg. It is alleged that security personnel were travelling in a cash-in-transit vehicle along Kremetart Street when a Toyota Fortuner travelling in the opposite direction collided with the driver’s side door of the cash vehicle. The vehicle was forced to stop and was subsequently blocked by a Toyota Hilux (Legend) double cab bakkie. Approximately 15 armed suspects allegedly overpowered the security officers and instructed them to unlock the doors. The guards were removed from the vehicle, dragged a short distance away from the cash vehicle and made to lie face down on the ground. One armed guard was disarmed while the suspects gained access to the vehicle and stole an undisclosed amount of cash. The suspects allegedly set alight both the cash-in-transit vehicle and the Toyota Fortuner used in the collision. Several shots were fired during the incident. The suspects fled the scene, and no injuries were reported. Investigations are ongoing and no arrests have been made at this stage. The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the North West, Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, urged members of the public to report serious crimes immediately and cautioned that suspects involved in such crimes are dangerous and should not be confronted. According to the MEC, security guards allegedly linked to the KwaNdengezi Taxi Association harassed and intimidated the passengers, ordered the driver to drop them off, and allegedly fired shots at the vehicle’s tyres. The driver reportedly lost control of the car and collided with another vehicle. Duma condemned the incident and said investigators from the Public Regulatory Entity and Operation Shanela, together with SAPS and Metro Police, have been tasked with probing the matter. Date: 19 September 2026 THREE SUSPECTS LINKED TO A MURDER CASE IN ESTHER PARK-BEHIND BARS CITY OF EKURHULENI _On Wednesday 16 September 2026 at approximately 16h20, a 41-year-old male was fatally shot, at an intersection of Parklands and Cawood Streets, in Esther Park. The suspects fled the scene in a blue VW Jetta 5 sedan and a case of murder, was opened at the Sebenza police station, for further investigations. Upon verification, the getaway vehicle, was found to be linked to two (2) other cases of hijacking and murder. Following credible information received, a joint intelligence-driven operation, was activated comprising the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Northern Region Task Team, South African Police Service (SAPS) Crime Intelligence, and Blue Hawks Security personnel. Within 24 hours of the incident, the team worked tirelessly to track and intercept the suspects. One suspect, was apprehended in the Spartan area, while two (2) other suspects, were arrested at the Enhlanzeni Hostel, together with the vehicle, used in commission of the crime. One (1) suspect led Officers to a house, at the Allandale Farm in Mayibuye, where a Beretta pistol with a filed-off serial number and 17 rounds of live ammunition, believed to have been used in the murder, was recovered. The three (3) suspects have been detained and will face charges of 'possession of a suspected hijacked/robbed motor vehicle, murder, and possession of an unlicensed firearm with ammunition'. Police are on the hunt for more CIT Robbery suspects following yesterday’s shootout in Laudium, west of Pretoria. Six suspects were shot dead and one was arrested on the “Military Road.” Police seized two vehicles (one hijacked) and four firearms and ammunition. The gang has been linked to a CIT robbery in nearby Atteridgeville last week and they were planning to rob another cash van. They were intercepted en-route to a safehouse at Mahpral Heights in Himalaya Street Laudium. A heavy shootout ensued with police. The possibly that the gang could be involved in others crimes is under investigation. More arrests are expected. Multiple police units and private security were involved in the breakthrough. VIDEO CIRCULATING OF SUSPECTS ARRESTED MADE AT MALL OF AFRICA Three suspects linked to taxi violence related murders in East London have been arrested by a special task team assigned to prevent, combat and investigate serious and violent crime in the Eastern Cape. The murders are believed to have taken place between November 2023 and August 2024 in which two taxi owners, a taxi driver and a member of a taxi association were gunned down. Police Inspector General Graphel Musamba says the Service has received credible intelligence that certain groups and individuals are mobilising and inciting members of the public to participate in unlawful protests. He says police are also aware of efforts to mobilise people to protest against the detention of certain suspects currently in police custody. While acknowledging that Article 21 of the Constitution guarantees the right to freedom of assembly and association, Mr Musamba says the right must be exercised within the law and is subject to limitations necessary to maintain public safety and order and protect the rights and freedoms of others. A few days ago, I responded to reports of four children who were allegedly being neglected by their parents in Mowlem, Embakasi West. While my team and I were busy rescuing the children and ensuring they were taken to safety, criminals took advantage of the situation, broke into my vehicle, and stole several parts from it. Although I was deeply disappointed by the incident, I chose to share a video to expose the theft and appeal to the public for information that could help bring the perpetrators to justice. Today, I am pleased to report that officers from Pangani Police Station, under the able leadership of their OCS, acted swiftly and professionally. Through their vigilance and commitment to fighting crime, they arrested the suspects when they attempted to sell the stolen vehicle parts. The officers contacted me, and I have since positively identified the recovered parts as those stolen from my vehicle. I wish to sincerely commend the OCS and the entire team at Pangani Police Station for their dedication, professionalism, and quick response. Their excellent work demonstrates that when law enforcement and the public work together, criminals can be brought to justice.
