The judge in Tyler Robinson's preliminary hearing banned the courtroom camera from displaying exhibits after Robinson's note to his roommate appeared on camera in violation of a court order. Judge Tony F. Graf Jr. issued the order today (Friday, July 10) after Robinson's lawyers requested he probated any further broadcast of Robinson's preliminary hearing. It applied only to one witness because the hearing is now over. Attorneys will file briefs this summer and return to court on Sept. 1 for argument. Robinson's lawyer Richard Novak cited an earlier violation of the court order regarding camera angles that occurred in a pre-trial conference. "This is the second time that the court's orders concerning the scope of electronic media coverage have been violated. I'm a baseball fan, and I just don't think the court needs to wait for the third strike," said Novak, who is based in Pasadena, California. The mistake occurred during the testimony of Sgt. Jennifer Faumuina of the Utah Department of Public Safety. Judge Graf earlier ruled that a handwritten note that investigators say Robinson left for his roommate and romantic partner, Lance Twiggs, could be shown in open court but not broadcast. The camera operator showed the note for a couple seconds then panned away, but Novak observed that the electronic era means the note has been widely shared through screenshots and is now permanently public. Judge Graf agreed his order had been violated but declined to ban broadcasting completely as Novak first requested. The judge granted Novak's secondary request to prohibit the broadcasting of exhibits. "Effective immediately, members of the media shall no longer capture or broadcast any exhibits displayed by the parties during today's proceedings. The court finds this sanction to be proportional and appropriate in light of the violation of the court's prior order," Graf said. The sanction does not apply to the Sept. 1 hearing, for which the judge said he has not received broadcast requests. This clip has been edited for brevity. Speaking of the 2004 election in Ohio, John Kerry told Brian Lehrer in 2018 that “The problem for us was we were doubting whether the [voting] machines themselves had been appropriately measured & whether the algorithms were correct, etc. We challenged that ahead of time by the way. People don’t know that. And we were told by the court that we were not able to get that algorithm, to check it, bc it was proprietary information. And I believe that it was absolutely incorrect that in the United States of America, the election for the presidency of the United States should somehow be the purview of privately owned machines where the public doesn’t have the right to know whether the algorithms can be checked or whether they are hackable or not. And we now know they are hackable. But we knew as we sat there to decide where to go in terms of the challenge, that we were a nation at war, we had just been through a Supreme Court test of an election four years earlier. I thought once I measured it that whatever constitutional challenge we brought or whatever appropriate challenge we brought to the ballots that were counted, it was going to wind up ultimately in the Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court would do the same thing that it did before. We would take the country through a three month exercise with a 5/4 decision that would award the presidency back to George Bush. Now some people may think that’s the right thing to have done. Advocate Billwadal Bhattacharyya says, "...There were statements made by the Chief Minister that they have no objection in transferring the case to the CBI but it was made time bound that after expiry of this particular period of time, we will transfer it to the CBI. But we say that this delay will be very fatal because evidence will be destroyed. So the court has heard the arguments of the parties. Today the parents of the victim girl, they also were there before the Court by way of a petition. And I contended on behalf of my clients, that despite this gruesome murder, despite the body being in such a bloodied state and half naked, the police was casual enough to register a suicide case and it took quite a lot of time for the police to basically register an FIR and thereafter arrest someone. So this was enough to indicate how casual the attitude of the police was. We are rather thankful and grateful to the Court that the case has been now handed over to CBI. We also wanted the investigation to be monitored by the Court. Now the Court has also directed the CBI to file periodic reports. In the event the parents of the deceased girl feel threatened, the CBI should always take all the necessary steps to give them protection under the witness protection scheme."

The raids that were happening in Los Angeles—the random pulling and snatching of people off the streets based on the language they spoke, their appearance, where they work—the court has said that can no longer happen. They recognized that it was unconstitutional, that it violated the rule of law, and that it has to stop. That temporary restraining order has been in place for a couple of weeks, and there has been peace in Los Angeles. I’m so hopeful that now the fear will subside and people will be able to come out of their houses. So, we got the decision on a local level, upheld by the 9th Circuit Court. We know it will eventually go to the Supreme Court, but for now, we’ve had a victory—because Los Angeles stood strong. We said: you experimented on us, and it failed. Thank you for standing together. LA stood strong.
