As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of our independence, I wanted to emphasize an important truth — that our shared heritage with Great Britain creates a deep bond between our two kindred nations, and that bond remains essential to the defense of liberty. A renewal and continuation of the West means securing our borders, investing seriously in our national defenses, and maintaining the strategic strongholds that keep hostile regimes at bay.
