Actually no, there is actually a similar hook set up with a much smaller hook at the top to help hold the bait in position. This version with two similar size hooks in rigid knot is like having double hook. Does more damage to the fish and more difficult to remove. That’s why in many fisheries you can only have a single hook. You really don’t need double hook for bait fishing, double and triple hook setup are common in lure fishing but not with bait. Even then there’s a current trend to use a single hook in lure fishing like for jigging.

I can't remember exactly where but I am fairly certain that there are some fishing places that have banned this. Like if a warden catches you using it you get in some trouble.

Appreciate the lesson. But all these knots are just about impossible for tying flies. When you’re in the stream and have to tie a fly with frozen fingers-well… it’s hard!
