Minnesota used to be one of the best educated states in the country. Now only half our kids can read or do math at grade level. That is heartbreaking, and it is happening to children across every community in this state. Minnesota's kids deserve better than this. But if you boo a Welcome to Country at an ANZAC Day service, you can be arrested, fined and left with a criminal conviction. Whether you support the Welcome to Country or oppose it isn't the point. The point is that political opinions should not be criminalised. Millions of Australians have concerns about the growing use of Welcome to Country ceremonies. Yet expressing that view is increasingly treated as unacceptable. Free speech doesn't only exist for popular opinions. Australia needs to decide what kind of country it wants to be.

He suggests that the problem may not be effectively addressed if it is handled only at a national level. Instead, he believes the focus should be on a provincial approach, particularly prioritising KwaZulu-Natal. According to him, concentrating efforts in KZN first could lead to more effective results rather than trying to tackle the whole country at once.

After seeing what ex-service men and women are going through at the hands of the Nigerian government, ask yourself: “Me that is still serving, is this what I should expect when I leave service?” To those considering joining the military or police, and those being encouraged to enlist, look closely at how some of those who served before you are being treated today. Imagine using serving soldiers and police officers to stop ex-service personnel from protesting over money owed to them. These are people who served the country, risked their lives and made sacrifices for Nigeria. If this is how we treat those who served after they leave service, what message are we sending to those currently wearing the uniform? A country that asks its citizens to sacrifice for it must also be prepared to honour and protect them after their service.
