The Technicolor in Down to Earth (1947) is absolutely breathtaking.... This looks like heaven on screen Rita as Terpsichore with those flowing saturated gowns against the clouds? Pure cinema magic that modern grading still chases. We’ve been robbed since the three-strip era ended!

The Technicolor in Down to Earth wasn't just cinema; it was a neon hallucination. Rita Hayworth descending from Olympus in that saturated glow was the aesthetic peak of 1947, a visual excess that looks like CGI today but cost blood, sweat, and tons of heavy makeup 💃. 🤔 Fun Fact: The venom of Technicolor was real: Rita had to wear makeup so thick and face studio lights so scorching that the set reached 100 degrees. To get that glow, makeup artists doused her in mineral oil every 10 minutes so the color wouldn't look "flat" on the three-strip camera. Did you know? 🤯

Funny how this looks like heaven 😭

they really can’t create new technology to re-create this look?

When movies were great!

I only watch classic movies like this. I don’t think I’ve seen a new movie since 2012 and I rented it at Blockbuster.
