The terminal hasn’t changed much since the 1970s. What you do with it has. Introducing Devin for Terminal: everything we learned building Devin, now as a local agent, available right in your shell. And when your work outgrows your laptop, hand it off to the cloud.

Devin for Terminal is a local coding agent with full access to your codebase, your tools, and your environment. Choose between any frontier model, including Opus 4.7, GPT-5.5, and our own SWE-1.6.

When your work outgrows your laptop, hand it off Start a session from your CLI. Hand it off to the cloud, where Devin keeps working even after you close your laptop.

We wrote a custom terminal rendering library in Rust to make the UI as fast and snappy as possible. We even got it working on a real VT-100, the first terminal from the 1970s. Try it out today

how it feels to /handoff

My terminal is now exclusively managed by @DevinAI!

Am I able to byok locally?

The handoff bit is the part I care about most. Local agents feel magical until the laptop closes / context disappears. For operator-style workflows, “continue in cloud and come back with receipts” is the UX shift, not just another terminal UI.

Whoever wrote this copy doesn’t understand what the word “local” means 😂

I’ve been on the sidelines w/Devin, this makes me think it’s time to jump in! 🔥

if model switching mid-session actually preserves the trajectory that's the real unlock here. bouncing between codex cli and claude code last week ate me 12 min just re-feeding context to whatever I switched to

That's crazy, the team cooked so hard on this video. I'm glad I tried it out in early beta!

does devin support spawning sub agents / tasks like GH copilot? Would love to see support for something like Squad

Check this out @SIGKITTEN 👀

Goosebumps

the local-to-cloud handoff is the underappreciated design decision here. most agent products force a choice: local privacy OR cloud scale. "hand it off when it outgrows your laptop" is the right model — start local, escalate as needed. and the terminal is the right interface because it already has the trust model: if you can run it in your shell, the agent can too.

Same interface. Entirely new paradigm. Local agent in your shell + seamless handoff to the cloud when it scales—this is what dev workflows have been missing. 🔥

Also, the pricing is hidden in your help files, please put that in the menu main and please add the usage quotas, which I couldn't find easiky in the help files. Thank you.

does windsurf plan include this? 👀

handoff is the real unlock here. local agent is where review and steering feel natural. cloud is where long-running work belongs. the hard part is preserving context without hiding state.

so it is basically hermes agent deployed on a VPS cc @NousResearch

Everything NOT to ditch a UI from the 70s.

The plans for Windsurf and Devin should be integrated. I feel like it is confusing the users.

Building terminal is very hard... Its been like that since forever , adding better UI/UX to it seems impossible and quite hacky and buggy (thats my name) but in todays Agentic Era , nothing is impossible anymore , a kid with 200$ plan can build this with Claude lol believe me

I tried devin some months ago and found it super hard to start... Is it any easier now? would love to consider trying it out again. (Specially setting up the VM part was goddamn hard)

can we have a option to hide email id's by default?

Hey @cognition , Excited for this. Sharing something I've built with respect to code security based on the agent trace standard... Now you know what the intent was behind agents writing the code, the prompt that drove it, and the context the agent had.

yay. codespaces, but with Devin.

Did yall fix the ability for enviornments to be spun up in your cloud automatically? 6 months ago, that was one of the most confusing parts. The setup for a mono repo just seemed like a big hurdle vs anything else I’ve set up before

Nice one, love this. The terminal needed a proper refresh and Devin in the shell sounds ace, especially with that cloud handoff - how seamless is it when you pass work up from your laptop?

tsss, could've just used pi and saved a lot of time

does it work with Windsurf?

sign me up

thank you ser! added support for ck
