There Will Be Blood (2007) is madness disguised as ambition. Daniel Day-Lewis gives one of the most ferocious performances ever filmed, a descent into greed so raw it feels almost supernatural.

It feels like America is finished. The country of the last hundred years will die before the end of the century. People are realizing that there won't even be a Christmas in the new America. It will be Indians, Chinese and Muslims fighting for our cities. The time to act is now.

Cate Blanchett losing Best Actress for TÁR (2022) to Michelle Yeoh is the kind of Oscar decision that ages worse every year. The performance is on the level of Daniel Day Lewis in There Will Be Blood (2007), and the Academy already knows it.

The opening of There Will Be Blood (2007) is bold as hell. Nearly fifteen minutes with no dialogue, just the grind of tools and that unsettling score. It locks you into Daniel Plainview’s world before he even says a word.

Paul Dano didn't have to act terrified in the finale of There Will Be Blood (2007). Daniel Day-Lewis was hurling real bowling balls at him with full force. Dano admitted he genuinely feared for his safety as the heavy props bounced around him.

“Then you will die braver than most.” has to be one of the coldest Darth Vader lines ever. Disney Star Wars btw.
