It’s a crime that the terrible people around her forced her to lip sync. I remember watching the HBO special of Onyx Hotel and her singing Shadow was live. But the next replay they put pre-recorded vocals over it. So unfair.

TOTP had this period between 1998-2000 when everyone was singing live in the show before they went back to use playback. I remember Kylie Minogue was singing live when she sang Spinning Around for the first time at TOTP but subsequent performances are lip-synced

Why do you lie? It's clear that there's a playback, you can hear it. TOTP did occasionally allow bigger artists to sing live. This is obviously what's happening here.
