Volker Schlöndorff on the reason behind Oskar's anger in "The Tin Drum" (1979): "Oskar enjoys destruction for the pure childish joy of destroying objects. I guess you could see this as more spontaneous and less dangerous. It is probably more dangerous to destroy things to attract attention than for the pure fun involved. I'm not a moralist when it comes to facing this issue."
