A better question of what happened is why would those morons be standing there filming to entertain themselves when they should have run ahead of the crash site waving oncoming traffic to start slowing down. That's our society now.

As a Texan who lived half my life up north, I can tell you that they can't drive with the smallest amount of ice or rain on the roads. I drove through this exact freeze on a different Hwy and saw countless cars in the ditch. They don't know how to slow down.

Looking at this multi-car collision, you have to wonder what happened. The distance between vehicles seems sufficient, so why couldn't they slow down? Was it poor lighting, inattentive drivers, or a critical failure by everyone to hit their brakes and use hazard lights? What's the real cause here?

For the people say “why couldn’t they stop?” This took place in Texas and there was black ice. Most people in warm weather climates have A/S tires which aren’t going to make a difference when you hit ice. Trying to brake instantly will just lead to sliding as shown.

Pretty sure this was a couple years back in Texas when they had that insane weather. There was an ice storm and obviously Texans are not equipped to drive in ice.

Six people were killed and dozens injured.  The NTSB found that, although pre-treatment with brine was done, road monitoring was inadequate. Providers failed to detect deteriorating ice conditions on the elevated roadway, contributing to the crash.  Speed played a key role—the lack of enforcement measures like variable speed limits and connected vehicle alerts meant drivers weren’t adequately warned to slow down for conditions.  The NTSB recommended installing environmental sensors, improving snow-and-ice response training, and enabling variable speed limit implementation statewide.

I know the daily life is frustrating, but it has its share of satisfying moments as well.

You won't understand this unless you drive in Texas. There are places with 85 mph speed limits and people will pass you at 100 in groups. Be careful out there 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️
