I can’t decide if I think Jerry has actually transcended all of that normalcy and comparison and insecurity, or if he’s bulshitting, cause he’s already a multimillionaire superstar at that point. Probably a bit of both.

Easy for Seinfeld to say it’s all for the love of the game and success doesn’t matter, as one of the most successful comedians of all time

Is the point of this clip that in order to make it in show business you have to sacrifice your humanity and become a sociopath that doesn't care about family or your relationship with your parents or your own reputation?

Effortless? Seinfeld is completely obsessed about his work, anal retentive about every detail, suffers a lot... there's zero illusion of effortlessness. The only thing he's implying is that he loves it so much he's willing to sacrifice it all for it. The article is misleading and confusing

Hate to tell you dawg but you don’t look 29, time’s running out.

the hydration revolution as @PaulSkallas would call it

Control what you can control. Live and breathe your craft and then walk away from the rest of the noise, everything else is out of your control.

adding this to a watch list… yet to get a bad recommendation from you

People like this are insufferable. They will never be happy. Comparison is the thief of joy. His friends who are successful in his eyes are probably 1: not worrying about what other people are doing 2: miserable and wish they’re doing what he’s doing.

What are you thinking…marriage? family? Those are man made prisons. You’re doin’ time!

Yep! and not only effortless in the sense of “work stamina/enjoyment” If you look at any top master musician, craftsman etc -> they always perform the extreme skill effortlessly without struggling/resistance in the act. Like a direct 1:1 map from their intention & how they act in reality Definitely something to strive towards

I remember when he told that story on the Norm MacDonald podcast. I think about it everyday. Truly one of the rare inspirational stories that's actually inspiring.

i think this is an inaccurate take. the truly successful put in an extraordinary amount of work to make their performances seem effortless. athletes, comedians, musicians, leaders Jerry's joke is that the dedicated artist can't imagine doing anything else

This may be in the article I just skimmed but do you know the name of the doc?

yet to give it a watch… comedian

I wonder what happened to that guy

After this conversation, I hope that young man realized the absolutely psychotic fucking maniac that he was dealing with and got on with his life. And I hope he has a beautiful family. And I hope he has a job that's good enough.

Jerry Seinfeld is a huge asshole. Always has been.

People saying it's easy for Jerry because he's mega successful - you don't get it, he was always like this and his attitude is exactly what made him mega successful

Did anyone notice the lightness in Jerry's tone versus the heaviness in Orny? There is something there that I can't quiet articulate.

beautiful

If you don't want to watch the documentary, do yourself a favor and watch the trailer...it is brilliant comedy.

I miss comedians in cars getting coffee.

I think the point is that even though even most people think that they are exceptional at something, they really aren't. 99.9999% of people will never be as good at something, work at something, master something the way Jerry Seinfeld has with stand up comedy.

Complaining to Seinfeld, at 29, is wild.

This clip is from the documentary “Comedian” which is a favorite of mine. Fans of Jerry Seinfeld or otherwise, you will enjoy it.

Jerry is an incredulous pompous cunt

@grok who is Jerry talking to? Did he ever make it?

I’ve worked with a lot of guys that could deliver that joke in a more entertaining way

Doc is amazing. Jerry figured life out as a kid. Saw what he wanted to do for the rest of his life and committed. He never wanted to be rich and famous. That came as a byproduct of him doing something he loved and knew with absolute certainty was the reason he was in the world.

Shoulda just told him to make a lot of jewish friends rhey own the industry

@BowTiedPhys Seinfeld being the man per usual

That’s exactly what it is. Spot on @JerrySeinfeld

it’s crazy how dumb seinfeld is

He is a psycho

Seinfeld IRL is seriously the GOAT.

Good write up but you didn't need to fall on your sword at the end there. Kudos nevertheless
