Portland is a failing socialist city.

Imagine getting a house for a dollar and then being mad that you have to make renovations and repairs on that house.

Appreciate you breaking it all down in a concise, easily understandible way. Its been annoying all the jackals coming in and spinning the story to create drama and clickbait garbage.

I agree… but also Portland has one of the biggest if not Thee biggest headquarters in Oregon with Nike which is def a top Fortune 500 company

Idk why fans try to defend this organization. Your owner is cheap lol

You make it sound like a public service. Until Portland residents get a discount at the gate, this is some lousy framing. Also, I think it comes out to 5% that the Trailblazers are being asked to cover in the renovations, in which they are by the benefactors.

If he doesn’t intend to continue operating the arena for them to just pay rent then they’re tenants. If he’s looking to fully operate the arena in perpetuity he’s a partner. We know which one he wants to be so 0 is an unserious offer. Fight for your team but beware this guy.

None of it matters as long as the commies run the city

Respectfully the only fact you need to understand is that Tom Dundon is contractually obligated to keep the arena “first-class”. So come back and ask me for tax money once he’s done that.

Yes, ignoring certain facts is part of your specialty. I've seen it all over the place. They're negotiating a new long-term lease and renovation package together. The current lease expires in 2030. If the existing lease already required Dundon to pay for the entire renovation and stay long-term, there wouldn't be anything to negotiate.

@Edan_Krolewicz Not gonna lie, I used to disagree with about everything you said and now I find myself agreeing with almost all your stuff 😂

EXACTLY!! Don’t buy the property if you don’t want to upkeep it!!

I'm losing faith in political " leaders" praying and hoping this gets resolved soon. It'd stink to see Blazers leave Portland. But when businesses are leaving Portland, and there's a potential ban on fishing and farming in the November election. It's not a good look for OR.

Portland needs new leadership.

In fairness, some of your arguments are valid, but some arent. "The Blazers are simply tenants" is fairly misleading-- they OPERATE the venue (ie, make $$ off it). Not the city. However, it is also in every major city's best interest to have at least one modern, Tier 1 arena.

I wonder how much he would pay on renovations if he owned the building.

Nailed it. Also, Portland needs the Blazers more than the Blazers need Portland.

The city bought Moda Center (or the Rose Garden) for 7 mil back in ‘24. I don’t know if the city had a plan to invest in a future renovation & I feel like that’s backfired against everyone here. I hope we can figure out THE solution that provides the $$$ and keep the team here!

Also, hasn't the city already approved 365 million for renovations prior to dundons group purchasing the team? So the blazers or dundon aren't asking for 600 million ... They need to approve the other 2 and change

Another thing national media doesn't get because it's more fruitful to morale grandstand and clickbait.

The owner is cheap AF but portland absolutely needs to keep the Blazers

Travis Glover's profile picture

I agree, but I think Tom should chip in with paying for the renovations. Some goodwill will be good PR with the people of Portland who already viewed him as a tightwad.

@SBJ might want to publish a more holistic story. Seems like the publication has had some sort of vendetta against Dundon since the sale was made official. Wonder why

You used Portland and Billionaire in the same sentence. Progressives hate Billionaires and anyone else who make a lot of money. These people want everything for free & paid for by Billionaires and the hard working people they employ.

JP's profile picture
JP4 months ago

I don’t know if you heard that. The billionaire owner built the majority of the building and benefited the most. The "no local sponsors" claim is bullshit. Almost none of the teams are sponsored by locals. This is a billionaire crying about not getting free stuff. It’s a billionaire asking for handouts while complaining about having to give them. Fuck this guy. And fuck the defenders.

The Blazers don’t currently pay rent as the primary tenant of an arena they don’t own, and take most of the profit from their games. Tom also paid for some of the renovations in Carolina, which was also publicly owned in addition to committing to opening businesses there.

You Nailed It. Well Done someone who actually understands business, how it works and who pays for what If I bought a bus in a new city it tells me a great deal how much the city leaders want my business to stay, its not my fault how poorly they have spent money before my arriv

Steven Omernik's profile picture

The PRIMARY POINT you list is easily the most oddly underreported yet Entirely ‘THE POINT’ THE CITY WAS GIFTED THIS BUILDING!!! The city HAS TO MAINTAIN & Renovate a 25 Yr old asset with a $4B TENANT! What are we missing!??!! #ripcity

let a billionaire build his own arena if he don't like end of story... taxpayers should not pay for it

Portland is a dump. Never seen so much graffiti everywhere, on everything. Obviously bum fent heads everywhere as well. Just a depressing place.
