I know of no Austrian who actually has seen this movie 😂. Most make its acquaintance abroad when you tell them your nationality. I’ve had a number of ppl asking me whether we actually do walk through life singing in dirndls while running through the woods 🫣.

It’s not about boycotting it it’s just that absolutely no one has I know has heard OF it 🤷‍♀️. I was 22 when I first heard about it by Chinese acquaintances.

i remember reading in one or two books that when the film was released in german speaking countries they wanted to cut it halfway + didn’t want the scenes showing n4z1s to be shown so there were disagreements with robert wise (the director)… that might have made matters worse 😅

Growing up in the 80s I vy much enjoyed studying the TV program. Having a weak spot for old movies I‘d have watched any version it just was never shown. Post WW2 years were vy ideological in regards 2 🎥 . They never ever talked or showed what happened, fits right in with this 👆

There are quite a number of post WW2 films that do broach the issue but never ever in an entertainment film. They tended to gloss things over or played during the K&K monarchy like Sissi.
