This week, we are launching a new series on all the ways New Mexico is leading the way in transformational investments and policies for our communities. Today, we start with education and investments in our young people—which are vital to our future. New Mexico leads as the first state in the nation to pass universal early childhood education and free college for all. I am deeply proud to have led federal efforts to make these generational investments in the House and to deliver millions back to NM-01 for early childhood education, Head Start projects, funding for public schools, mobile health units, youth programs, and our local colleges and universities. We became the first state in the country to guarantee free, UNIVERSAL childcare for ALL families! And, our Creamland Dairy workers and Teamsters Local 492 reached a labor deal ending their strike! This is what pro-family, pro-worker policies look like and why elections matter. I am so proud of our state!

The Government has announced a new child poverty strategy that it says will give all children a good start in life. The plan includes greater access to childcare and ending families living in Bed and Breakfasts for more than six weeks. Labour claims the plan will lift more than half a million children out of poverty by 2030. But with a record four and a half million kids in the UK living below the Poverty line, campaigners have criticised the strategy, saying it lacks ambition. Richard Gaisford reports.
