The new Syria is, by every measure, a terrorist state. It is led by a president who emerged from al-Qaeda and who appoints ministers and diplomats with terrorist backgrounds, many of them are current and former members of extremist Islamist terrorist organisations. Such a state should not be removed from the list of state sponsors of terrorism, on the contrary.

Meanwhile, U.S. intelligence officials are reportedly questioning whether the regime is genuinely prepared to make meaningful nuclear concessions.
