Several media ( and websites are spreading rumors that Ukraine can create its own nuclear weapons within a short time-frame, alleging that this is a second option for a desperate Ukraine if we are not accepted into NATO. Obviously, this is a worst-case scenario - it is awful to even think about a Ukraine that desperate. Thus, inviting Ukraine to join NATO at this point is the most pragmatical solution. Another option are security guarantees that would be equally effective to joining NATO. The whole world is watching the situation in and around Ukraine and our security - we gave up our nuclear weapons in exchange for security guarantees. As a result, Russia continues destroying our country, and Ukraine gets more restrictions and bans. What will the small non-nuclear countries think about this case? Which alliances and partnerships will they consider? What spheres of influence and security will they decide to become a part of? And will they think about their own nuclear weapons? But now they feel betrayed and destined to fight for many more years.
