Definitely even as a pilot you can see what Lynch is going for: MD much starts off as glossy, rather silly 90s late night soap opera, complete with wooden acting and Bette as the sweet, bland “good girl” protagonist, then the audition scene hits and you’re like “wtf is Betty?”

Most of the time I go about my days convinced that Lynch basically invented modern sound design, starting with ERASERHEAD but especially with ELEPHANT MAN. I admit this belief is based >75% on just what’s in the final cuts, <25% on actual historical evidence.
