Honestly, not just the VTubing industry. The general anime and convention industry struggles with backend talent. I’ve been a backend talent for a decade in the convention scene and 4 years in VTubing. I’ve seen too many people get burned out quickly due to limited support.

you are 100% correct- the same message can be applied across the board in those spaces

This is more or less the same conclusion many ex-corpo VTubers know all too well!!! I personally don't want to step into a corpo again unless it specifically is back-end manager/creative support work. I think as more people realize that they have a passion for the field but don't want to be the talent themselves, the back-end will hopefully naturally populate! There's a lot of amazing VTubers out there who are indie and corpo stretching themselves way too thin, as well as amazing managers working their ass off for little to NO PAY! Honestly, I have so much to say about this topic it's not even funny. The downfall of the "small corpo" in the last year especially... literally can be 75% attributed to this issue alone.

Back end (whether editors or assistants) is likely seen by vtubing corporations as a liability - as they don’t generate revenue directly. Most Vtubers approaching burnout would better served going indie and contracting out for these services rather than waiting for corpos.

I think the issue w/ this currently is that ANYONE can claim to be anything business-wise in this space, it isn't vetted properly. Now, that can be a great thing for people who are just getting started and really DO have the chops for it - but it also can be quite dangerous.

100% agree but I also think the big problem we face is also budgeting. As someone who was talent and now getting into the management side of things this past year ; I've notice a complete disregard and lack of care for those on the back end. Many companies I've consulted for are just straight up not willing to pay for, nor train people to be those back end. As a result we don't have those crucial people that the industry desperately needs. I've encountered companies that want to hire competent and educated project managers for less than 300$USD a month and that is simply not feasible in any situation. And it's a serious problem.
