'The Wacky Wabbit' is loaded with some creatively unusual movements only Clampett would pull off. Elmer spinning in place and Bugs swimming into his hole are hilariously drawn-out, while Elmer clawing himself back with the pickaxe has a fun stretchiness that keeps the pace up.

I'm so happy this short is in the Public Domain, so people can check how good it is. The whole sequence of Bugs burring Elmer alive and then starts to sing and move like a dumbass always gets me. XD

It always used to be the "Fat Elmer" short I was the most divisive on but I've come to love it more with each rewatch (the same thing happened with 'Buckaroo Bugs'). It's certainly one of Clampett's best looking and has a great Bugs and Elmer dynamic.

All the motion blur is so interesting! Haven't watched this one since I was a kid and never really noticed all the visual signifiers of movement and sound

The ending fight takes that motion blur to the extreme. It's really impressive in how it's complete chaos and, yet, you can still make out the characters perfectly. It's always a blast to see the visual experimentation Clampett throws into his work.

I love the acting by Blanc and Bryan at the beginning when Bugs is talking about the gold that’s been found, it’s subtle but authentic to the situation 😂 My, Clampett really enjoyed the desert environment for Bugs in ‘42, didn’t he? Knocks it out of the park both times.

I love the really casual, natural sounding dialogue, especially the "where are you" after Elmer vanishes into the hole. Interestingly, Clampett seemed to use the desert in a really open/loose way. Both this and 'Buckaroo Bugs' have the world constantly changing between shots.

🟩 NEW: Scahill and Elmer on How Palestinian Armed Resistance Outsmarted Israel’s Surveillance Trap Jeremy Scahill shares a leaked internal memo from Palestinian resistance groups revealing how Israel used the January ceasefire to quietly plant tens of thousands of surveillance devices across Gaza—hidden in rubble, aid crates, and even hospital courtyards. But instead of dismantling the system, fighters turned it into a trap. They fed false intel through motion-triggered cameras, shared decoy memories with released Israeli captives, and manipulated the data Israel relied on to restart the war. “Every piece of information, no matter how small, is important to the investigator,” the memo noted. Jon Elmer explains that this deception was rooted in Yahya Sinwar’s counterintelligence legacy.—including his early role cracking down on collaborators inside Palestinian society. “Israel has no on-the-ground intelligence,” Elmer says. “They can operate inside Gaza for over 600 days and still not know anything about their captives.” Despite constant surveillance, airstrikes, and multimillion-dollar bribes, Israel has failed to find captives and recruit informants. Elmer credits that to the deep link between armed resistance and Gaza’s social fabric. “The resistance is part of Palestinian society,” he says. “The fighters are starving too. They’re not living any differently than the people in the camps.” But after all that—Elmer says—“Israel remains blind.” jeremy scahill | Ryan Grim | Jon Elmer | Murtaza Hussain
