Headlines may give cause for optimism that hostage release talks continue, but most Israelis are not optimistic that a deal will be reached any time soon. 57.5% of Israelis say they are moderately or very pessimistic that a deal to release all hostages will be reached soon, while 36.5% say they are moderately or very optimistic. The picture is more complex when we look at different sectors of society - among Jewish Israelis, the share of pessimists (62.5%) is double the share of optimists (31%), while among Arab Israelis, the picture is reversed: the share of optimists (63%) is almost double the share of pessimists (34%).
