Afenyo-Markin is sounding like a drowning man clutching at a straw. Claiming that GoldBod’s structure encourages galamsey requires evidence. Where is it? Which provision encourages illegal mining, and how? Before GoldBod, were galamsey operators eating gold for dinner? They were selling it! Illegal mining already had buyers and financial incentives. The existence of a gold-buying institution alone does not establish that it promotes illegal mining. If your argument concerns weaknesses in sourcing controls, traceability or enforcement, identify those weaknesses and demand specific remedies. That would be a serious contribution. Our forests and rivers deserve protection. Atewa deserves more than being used as a backdrop for political accusations. Explain how GoldBod allegedly worsens illegal mining and present the evidence for scrutiny. The fight against galamsey requires accountability across mining, buying and enforcement.
