"The way you draw manga is wrong!" I've received quite a few messages/comments from people saying the way I draw manga is incorrect. This is mainly because of how I use my pen: while for dip pens you're supposed to draw strokes from top to bottom,

I draw my manga by flicking strokes from bottom to the top. This may be an unusual method, but just like how some people are left handed, I think there are a lot of people who feel more comfortable drawing in this way. What do you think?

Unless that Comment came from other Professional Mangaka in same genre, don’t listen to other people. You already got serialization that mean your artstyle are interesting the publisher, your drawing works, and there’s audience for your Works who had interest.

Well the way you ink, does increase the chance of your hand smearing the wet ink, is about all I can see "wrong". If it works for you for years Go For It !! ^_^

Luckily I dont have much problems with smearing now, if I do though I just fix it digitally ☺️

The only truly wrong way to draw manga is to resort to AI and thus not draw it at all. I think your technique is pretty cool and interesting, itching to give it a shot myself.

ほんとにその通りで、人それぞれのやり方があります。それにここまで上手い絵が描けてたら何の問題もない。 というか、下からのストロークも使えたら紙を動かす手間が省けるからアナログ作家からしたら羨ましい技術だと思う。

I think this mentality comes from the idea of stroke order in kana/kanji, which can mess up writing if done wrong. Art is different, though, because there's so many different styles

Your art workflows are your own, at the end of the day any would be critics should perhaps put their energy into the growth of their own skill set. Given how your work is getting noticed and published I think you're doing just fine. :D

If you like how it turns out at the end of the day, nobody should be able to give you grief otherwise. Art is all about finding your own way and methods. There is no right or wrong way to do things, especially inking.

I mean... You did that with the skills you hone dilligently and it's worked for you so I don't see any problems? Isn't do what feel best for you is better than stuck in the so called "right"? What even is the right way anyway???

Fam there is no right or wrong in using a dip pen. Whatever your technique may be, if it makes you draw lines, then good 😭😭😭

Actually i have seen western comic artist inking with dip pen like you do and they say it help to get finer lines
